4 targets for the Patriots at the Trade Deadline

October 14, 2020 by Jason Pombo

Everything else may be crazy in 2020, but a Bill Belichick press conference doesn't change (Belichick-isms) - masslive.com

The NFL trade deadline is November 3rd, which means that it’s time to get the rumor mill going.

Last season the Patriots made two moves prior to the trade deadline. They gave up a 2020 second-round draft pick for WR Mohamed Sanu, and they traded DE Michael Bennett to the Cowboys for a 2021 seventh-round pick.

The Patriots are 2-2, and have some glaring needs on the roster. To this point, it’s evident that the Patriots are most in need of an upgrade at wide receiver or at tight end. Now, the question is, which of these holes should be a priority for Bill Belichick?

Here are 4 guys that the Patriots should look to target:

BREAKING- Patriots-Broncos postponed by NFL

October 11, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Per Adam Schefter, the NFL is postponing the Patriots-Broncos game.

Broncos-Patriots game is being moved to next Sunday, sources tell ESPN.

Broncos were supposed to play Miami; that won’t happen. That game is being rescheduled.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) October 11, 2020

“This decision was made to ensure the health and safety of players, coaches and game day personnel and in consultation with medical experts.”

NFL on Patriots-Broncos postponement

Not at all surprising, and it looks that this will be the team’s bye week, but the NFL needs to get a grip of reality right now, the Titans had another positive test today, and it’s only going to get worse if serious action isn’t taken.

October 11, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Faith Ninivaggi/ Boston Herald

Per Adam Schefter and Field Yates, the NFL is closing down the Patriots’ facility this morning once again, casting serious doubt on their rescheduled Monday night game against Denver.

Broncos were scheduled to leave for New England later today. It is uncertain now if they will. NFL is trying to sift through this morning’s developments in New England. https://t.co/2CdgSJgQuq

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) October 11, 2020

Now, we don’t know exactly what has happened but this could indicate a new positive test showed up sometime yesterday/late last night.

UPDATE

Per @AdamSchefter: Patriots had one new positive test this morning, source tells ESPN.

— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) October 11, 2020

Now confirmed, a further player/coach has tested positive this morning.

NFL still plans to play Monday’s Broncos-Patriots game, source tells ESPN. There is further testing this morning in New England, it takes a few hours to get back those results, but as of now the league expects to have more answers later today, with the game played Monday.

The Patriots got off to a fast start at Empower Field after the Broncos spilled a Ryan Allen punt which was recovered by Jacob Hollister. On the resulting possession, Tom Brady found Rex Burkhead over the middle for a 14-yard touchdown.

After the Broncos stalled following a long drive downfield, they settled for a field goal. Denver kicked off to return possession to New England and Dion Lewis received the kick around three yards deep in the Patriots endzone and bolted 103 yards to the house for an incredible touchdown.

Again Denver tried to fire back, but could only settle with another field goal. Patriots also matched this when they couldn’t convert in the red zone and also settled for three points.

As the second quarter rolled on, the teams both had a further field goal conversion each and the Patriots launched a late quarter drive into Broncos territory. Within the final minute, Brady fired a laser to Dwayne Allen for an 11-yard touchdown. Halftime- Patriots 27-9 Broncos.

Brock Osweiler finally found the end zone for Denver with a seven-yard pass over the middle to Demaryius Thomas for their only touchdown of the game.

Brady orchestrated a brilliant counter-attack which ended with Lewis rushing for his second touchdown of the night. The scoring was soon complete with Brady going to James White for a six-yard touchdown. Osweiler finished off proceedings by throwing an interception to Patrick Chung. Final- Patriots 41-16 Broncos.

Patriots vs Chiefs – Player Ups & Downs

October 6, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

I don’t think I’m speaking out of line when I say that following the news of Cam Newton’s positive COVID-19 test, the expectation to win last night’s game was pretty much nonexistent. But when we look back, I can’t help think we could have stolen a win last night. Here are Week 4’s ups and downs.

Ups ⬆️

Damien Harris

We were finally able to see Damien Harris lead the Patriots backfield last night, and it was promising stuff. Harris finished with 17 carries for 100 yards, his longest run being a 41 yard gain.

#Patriots film: Damien Harris for 41 yards on cross-lead. Notice his initial rush path. By following Johnson, he gets the KC LBs to flow to the FB. Helps Herron fit his block, and once Herron gets #54 inside, Harris bounces it and accelerates. That's how you set up your blocks. pic.twitter.com/lIBqf0kLdX

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) October 6, 2020

With Michel out for three weeks at least, Harris has a golden opportunity to stay atop of the running back depth chart, and one way to stay there is to keep having big yardage games, just a shame he couldn’t score the team any points, they needed it.

Patriots place Sony Michel, Cody Davis on IR, promote three to main roster for KC game

October 5, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Per Field Yates, the Patriots are placing RB Sony Michel on IR today. A tough break for Sony who had one of his better games as a Patriot against Las Vegas, he’ll be out with a quad injury for at least three weeks.

S/ST Cody Davis also unsurprisingly ends up on IR, he missed practice all week and now is given a few weeks to recover.

Backfield roster shuffling for the Patriots: Sony Michel is off to IR after suffering a quad injury, while Damien Harris is being activated to the roster after missing three games due to a hand injury.

— Field Yates (@FieldYates) October 5, 2020

Now, here’s what we’ve been waiting for, RB Damien Harris is off IR and active for tonight, he’ll surely be lead back to begin proceedings and the first time we’ll get to see him in a meaningful role as a Patriot.

In addition to Damien Harris, the #Patriots activated WR Gunner Olszewski from IR and WR Isaiah Zuber as a COVID-19 replacement.

— Jim McBride (@globejimmcbride) October 5, 2020

WR Gunner Olszewski has also been activated from IR and will be active tonight, along with fellow WR Isaiah Zuber, who gets another chance to show what he can do as the team’s official COVID-19 replacement.

Notes on the New England Patriots Pro Bowlers

Six Patriots made the Pro Bowl, and for most of them it was a well-deserved honor. Tom Brady and Vince Wilfork are clearly deserving as they’ve been playing at a top level all season. Many knocked the first round selection of “mainly special teamer” Devin McCourty, but now we see that McCourty is the next […]
