Patriots vs Jets – Player Ups & Downs

November 10, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

By hook or by crook the Patriots are back in the win column. Here in the UK it was 04:30 when the game ended, does anyone have coffee? Here are the ups and downs from Week 9.

Ups ⬆️

Jakobi Meyers

Wow. What a night for the birthday boy! Meyers recorded 12 catches for a career-high 169 yards last night. It’s great to see him taking this opportunity to show that he can be a contributor for this team moving forward. His best game as a Patriot and the best player on the field.

The play that setup the first TD of the night. @Patriots #GoPats

Nick Folk

Now I’ll admit, I was quite critical of Folk after the first couple of weeks, but he’s turned out to be one of the most consistent players on the offense. A doubt going into the game with a back injury, Folk was a perfect 3/3 on field goals and 3/3 on extra points. His third and final field goal was a 51-yarder and the game-winner, a brilliant moment for him.

Nick Folk's 51-yard field goal is the longest game-winning FG with no time left in the 4th quarter in @Patriots history.

The previous long was 48 yards by Adam Vinatieri to beat the Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI.#GoPats

Patriots Sunday Supplement 11/08

November 8, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Faith Ninivaggi

Here’s Sunday supplement for all of the latest news ahead of Monday night’s Week 9 encounter against the New York Jets.

Check out my preview for today’s match up here.

Roster Moves

Main Roster
WR Isaiah Ford (Acquired in a trade with Miami)
DT Isaiah Mack (Claimed on waivers from Tennessee)

Practice Squad
WR Donte Moncrief
DT Ryan Glasgow

Released
NONE

Placed On IR
TE Devin Asiasi

The trade deadline came and went with the Patriots acquiring just one player, WR Isaiah Ford from Miami. Isaiah Mack was also claimed to help build up the defensive front ranks. Donte Moncreif and Ryan Glasgow are interesting adds to the PS, I could see both of them getting activated on game days if they stick around.

Devin Asiasi will miss at least three games as he was placed on IR, this now raises some questions about the TE position in general, Dalton Keene and Ryan Izzo are still banged up also.

FWIW, Berry is now listed as a TE on the Patriots' online roster. Had been a TE/DE. https://t.co/Ndi1BWInrv https://t.co/2382Yr4SIy

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) November 6, 2020

Zach Cox noted that Rashod Berry’s position has changed to just “TE” now on the team’s official website. This could nod towards him helping out the position.

Injury Check-In

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
OUT
WR N’Keal Harry (Concussion)
RB J.J. Taylor (Illness)
DOUBTFUL
NONE
QUESTIONABLE
LB Ja’Whaun Bentley (Groin)
LB Shilique Calhoun (Knee)
DT Carl Davis (Concussion)
S Cody Davis (Calf)
S Kyle Dugger (Ankle)
K Nick Folk (Back)
CB Stephon Gilmore (knee)
DL Lawrence Guy (Shoulder, Elbow and Knee)
RB Damien Harris (Ankle)
TE Ryan Izzo (Hamstring)
CB J.C. Jackson (Knee)
TE Dalton Keene (Knee)
G Shaq Mason (Calf)
DE John Simon (Elbow)
G Joe Thuney (Ankle)
DE Deatrich Wise (Knee, Hand)

NEW YORK JETS
OUT
LB Blake Cashman (Hamstrings)
TE Trevon Wesco (Ankle)
DOUBTFUL
QB Sam Darnold (Right Shoulder)
K Sam Ficken (Right Groin)
WR Vyncint Smith (Groin)
DL Quinnen Williams (Hamstring)
QUESTIONABLE
OL Josh Andrews (Shoulder)
WR Jamison Crowder (Groin)
DL John Franklin-Myers (Knee)
OL Connor McGovern (Knee)
DL Nathan Shepherd (Back)

16 Players are questionable to play for the Patriots, including starters Stephon Gilmore, Shaq Mason, Joe Thuney, Nick Folk, Lawrence Guy, Deatrich Wise, and more. Here’s hoping everyone can rest up and be good to go, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a few miss out, especially the likes of Guy and Wise, both of who are suffering from multiple ailments.

The Jets look set to rely on the services of veteran QB Joe Flacco on Monday night as Sam Darnold is doubtful to play with a shoulder injury. Also doubtful is their 3rd pick from this year’s draft Quinnen Williams, who would be a huge loss for the Jets defense.

Salary Cap Check-In

My new Patriots salary cap space number after the Patriots signed two practice squad players today is $21,702,141 – a $216,000 decrease from yesterday.

— Patscap's Patriots Cap Space Number is in Bio (@patscap) November 4, 2020

As always, here’s your weekly check-in from @patscap! The current cap number stands at $21,702,141 following this week’s roster moves.

In the end, Gilmore stayed and the Patriots didn’t make any major splashes at the trade deadline. Whilst the cap will fluctuate with roster moves each week, we shouldn’t see any major changes unless the team starts restructuring contracts.

The Patriots started off hot with a near nine-minute opening drive which ended with a Sony Michel three-yard TD run to open the scoring.

On the next drive, Sam Darnold, who would later claim he was “seeing ghosts” threw an interception to Devin McCourty to give the Pats an immediate red-zone opportunity.
