FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Aggressiveness Index 2014
Belichick 9th.
Tom Brady, I’m going to give him 12 shots. This is easy money. I’m getting all cocky on the first tee and I get a match with him. And I win the first hole. I go, ‘TB, I’ll give you a buyout if you want.’ I just start chirping. And then he runs off … he plays the next 14 holes 4 under par. Beat me 6 and 5. He’s really good. I couldn’t believe it. … Those competitive juices kicked in and he smoked me.

I’m all for crazy comebacks, but there was such a large element of frustration in those games where they were playing horrible to horrible teams. So give me the 2014 team, who just put together some great football to go with some clutch plays.
I think they might’ve blown up the defense a year earlier. You still had Bruschi/Harrison/Seymour/Vrabel back in the mix in 2008, but things were headed downhill quickly. Obviously in 2009 you had all those guys get either traded or retire, but going out as champs probably would’ve expedited things for Bruschi and Harrison at least
Hard to say otherwise because Brady’s injury was the defining moment of 2008. With an easy schedule they certainly would’ve been back in the mix for a title, but if the defense went into full transition it might’ve been rough sledding, though it was anyways when injuries hit.
At the very least they could’ve tried to rebuild a little better in the offseason leading up to 2008, instead of having to rely on things like bringing Colvin and Seau back out of retirement in December.
Regardless, there was no way around that defense needing to be overhauled. Here were seven years later and the front seven is just returning to the kind of talent level we had 2003-2007.
“In those last two minutes, I got a glimpse of what Tom Brady would become. He’s a guy that no situation is too big. He’s a guy that can find ways to win games for you, setting up the winning field goal to beat us. Even if it’s against me, and even if it’s him taking a Super Bowl ring from me, I couldn’t help but appreciate what Tom did in Super Bowl 36.”

Another great Moss catch from 2007…
