In the wake of Wilfork becoming a Texan, how much does it bother you when Pats legends can’t finish their careers as Patriots? Also, what current players would you hope to never see in another jersey?

April 8, 2015 by Mike Dussault

Not really anymore. I think the only thing that would really bother me is losing a good player and having him go on to be as good or better somewhere else. So far that really hasn’t happened. Maybe a little bit in 2013 with Welker in Denver. Every catch he made certainly bothered me. Vinatieri still seems strange as a Colt, it’s almost like he’s a different person than when he played for us now that it’s been so long. Still, as soon as he retires it will be like he never left I think.

But otherwise, seeing guys like McGinest, Vrabel and now Wilfork doesn’t really bother me all that much, it’s just what happens in the NFL.

The only guy I never want to see in another uniform is of course #12. Or see BB coach somewhere else. The former certainly seems more possible than the latter.

You think belichick might try to evolve his philosophy and go away from a wilfork type and go with two Easley type of DTs

April 8, 2015 by Mike Dussault

I think that the way they mix-and-match their defensive gameplans there’s still a need for both types. Simply put, if you have two sub-300 pound defensive tackles you’re not going to be very good at stopping the run and your linebackers are going to have a lot of traffic to deal with.

So they have a decent cross section of guys now – Siliga fits that nose tackle style, Chris Jones is a more traditional balanced defensive lineman, probably best served as a one-gapper but can hold his ground okay when asked.

Then you have Alan Branch who used to be more of a defensive end but is now used as a tackle inside with great size. Finally, there’s Easley who is an upfield guy. I’d love to take another guy in the draft like Eddie Goldman, who would really solidify the defensive tackle group and give them a really talented young player to help replace Wilfork’s job.

Wilfork was just so good he really dictated how the front seven worked. Now they’ll have a bit more of a rotation depending on the opponent.

If they stay put at pick 32 which positions do you see them drafting, personally I see them trading down and I especially don’t see them drafting corner as predicted by pretty much everybody

April 7, 2015 by Mike Dussault

I think Guard and Defensive Tackle are the big two, and I’d put Cornerback/Linebacker just below them. I don’t know how any of the selections in the first two rounds at least don’t come from those four positional groupings.

Maybe add DE as a dark horse.

Can Dominique Easley fill key holes in Patriots defense?

Can Dominique Easley fill key holes in Patriots defense?

New one is up on Athlon taking a look at one of the most intriguing players of 2015. I really think Easley could be a huge plus for a defense trying to replace Wilfork/Revis/Browner.

There was a lot of talk last year about how the Patriots had finally found a running game to balance out their offense, but the Patriots have always had an efficient running game. They just happened to use it a little bit more last year than in years past. New England has now ranked in […]
