If Goodell refuses to remove himself from the Brady appeal, the union will go to court with overwhelming evidence that the league did not provide its biggest star with appropriate due process, and Goodell will face another humiliating defeat.

How do you think the Pats would structure the offense to run smoothly and put up points with Jimmy under center? Or is his skill set so similar to Brady’s that not much will change?

May 22, 2015 by Mike Dussault

From a pure football standpoint, I’m really excited to see a Garoppolo-centric game plan from the Patriots. There’s no question, of all the backups we’ve seen in Brady’s time, Garoppolo is the most promising and the closest they’ve gotten to replicating Brady’s skillset.

There’s no question that Garoppolo will not read defenses as well as Brady. He just doesn’t have the experience against defenses that are specifically game planning against him. But that will come with time, and any action he gets this year will really aid in his development.

Garoppolo’s quick release is his best skill and that’s the perfect fit for New England’s overall philosophy of getting the ball out fast and letting the playmakers make the plays.

But what Garoppolo also has is better athleticism than Brady and I’d argue that last preseason we even saw some better deep touch than Brady has at this point. Garoppolo also showed very good poise in the pocket last year and didn’t force plays that weren’t there.

Honestly, the most underrated skill for a quarterback is taking a sack or throwing it away instead of trying to force it and turning the ball over. The Patriots defense preys on quarterbacks like that, lulling them into a false sense of security before picking them off multiple times.

I think the big difference I would look for is how Garoppolo plays with guys like Aaron Dobson, Bryan Tyms and Tim Wright. He showed good chemistry with all three last preseason, and I’m especially excited to see if he can connect on some deep balls to Tyms and Dobson.

Garoppolo will have no problem holding the fort for however many games he’s needed and whether it’s sooner or later, this experience could very well help him to eventually challenge Brady as the starter.

Who do you think will be in our version of the nascar package that the Giants used

May 22, 2015 by Mike Dussault

I think all of us are guilty to some extent of fantasizing about the all-out pass rush package, but I really don’t think it’s a grouping that will be utilized that much unless we’re talking third-and-long. The easiest way to go is Ninkovich-Easley-Chandler-Sheard up front with Mayo and Collins at LB. Could even see Hightower in there for some pass rushing snaps, maybe in place of Ninkovich.

The problem of course is that just about every team would try to run on this, even if was 3rd-and-15. That was the beauty of Vince Wilfork – he had that ability to singlehandedly occupy the entire middle of the line, even if he wasn’t getting much push.

What will be most interesting to see is how the Pats adapt without Wilfork. They had to do it on the fly in 2013, but now with a full offseason to plan, I think we could see some schematic tweaks to make up for his loss, and it will almost certainly involve more heavy rotation along the DL.

Submit a Question!

Let’s hear it Pats fans, anyone out there have an actual football question that doesn’t involve which corner they could trade for?

Ted Wells either overlooked or ignored crucial text messages, he used a firm with a reputation for bending science to fit predetermined conclusions, and he cherry-picked the memory of an NFL referee. But that’s not all. The Wells report left completely unexamined the fact that the NFL has never once considered the inflation of footballs to be a matter of great integrity or competitive advantage, before now.

And this is where Brady can blow the commissioner out of a courtroom. And perhaps out of his job.

In trying to restore his authority, Goodell undermined his credibility

As strong of an unbiased takedown of the Commish and the NFL that you’ll find written on this whole farce. I mean I know we’re supposed to only count what people who have lost to the Patriots and are now in the media think or fans of other teams, but this is pretty succinct and perfect.
