Robert Kraft Press Conference Transcript

Robert Kraft Press Conference Transcript

Having a hard time pulling just one quote from this whole thing, so if you didn’t hear it live you definitely have to go read it. Patriots fans felt abandoned by Mr. Kraft when he accepted the team punishment, but personally I understood why he did it. Unfortunately I think he realized too late what we all knew, that this was never solely about deflated footballs, this was about a chance to pin something on the Patriots.

I’ve seen plenty of tweets out there from national pundits not understanding how it’s good for the NFL to take down one of their biggest players. But there are plenty of people inside the NFL office, Mike Kensil being a prime example, who would love nothing more than to see the Patriots knocked down a peg.

The false leaks that Mr. Kraft brought up today are another example that there are forces driving this story with an anti-Patriots agenda.

The media landscape, filled with former playes and executives who were handed defeat at the hands of Brady and Belichick are only too happy to cast a critical eye solely on the Patriots. They take the bait at every turn and yesterday’s “destroyed his phone” is a prime example.

How many phones have you “destroyed” in your life? Words are powerful and “destroyed” is a loaded word and it framed the final piece of circumstantial evidence meant to bury the Pats.

So now it’s on. Kraft is back in our corner and that’s a powerful force to have because he carries weight where it counts most – with the other owners. I don’t know how it will play out, but it would appear this might be a defining moment for the National Football League. And all over some footballs that may or may not have been deflated.

Although the text messages couldn’t be retrieved directly from Brady’s phone, his agents provided all of the phone numbers with which Brady exchanged text messages. His agents also said that the league could attempt to get the actual text messages from the phones of the people with whom Brady communicated, but the league refused to attempt to try, claiming that it would be too hard to track down the various people and to persuade them to cooperate.

Given all of this, it is incomprehensible as to why the league is attempting to destroy the reputation of one of its greatest players and representatives.

Brady’s suspension is upheld. What’s next for the Patriots QB?

Here’s the nuts and bolts of what comes next. Hopefully we can at least put a pin in Deflategate for a while and focus on the start of training camp, which is in two days. That will be a welcome distraction from all this bs.

The NFLPA will appeal this outrageous decision on behalf of Tom Brady.

NFLPA – NFLPA Statement on Tom Brady’s Four-Game Suspension

And the saga continues. I can’t lie, I’m a little giddy thinking about the NFL being forced to give up some secrets by having to litigate on a level playing field. Most of all I just hope they dig into all the leaks and false reports that came from the NFL that shaped public perception.
