You know how Edelman has brill okay chemistry with Brady? Well I’ve been wondering having been out for a good while, when he comes back will it seem as if he was never out or will him and Brady have to work that chemistry back up? Wondering the same about Lafell?

Nah, not worried at all about Edelman. You can’t undo six seasons of chemistry in two weeks. The guy takes a beating, it’s smart to just keep him healthy as possible. We all know what he’s capable of.

As for LaFell I think they’re being cautious because he’s such a physical player, less so for the hits he’ll take, more so for the blocks he delivers. For LaFell I think there will be a little bit more of a “knock the rust off” period though as he was in a walking boot this offseason and that had to affect his preparation.

It would be great to get him back this week, get him some work in the third preseason game and then he should be good to go.

Do you think Brady has the grounds for a defamation lawsuit against the NFL or Wells. It seems to me that the damage to his “brand” is significant and, given the many well chronicled failings of the Well’s report, their is little real evidence of any wrong doing on Brady’s part. Your thoughts?

From my crash course in law over the past six months I’ve gathered that he would have to prove intent to do harm which can be difficult to do. Doesn’t mean it’s impossible, but what you’re looking at is showing Kensil (or whoever) at the NFL offices specifically planted some of the stories, like the Judy Batista NFL.com one, to make Brady look bad. I mean, there’s little doubt they did just that, but then you’re getting into reporters giving up their sources and that’s always a tough road to go.

I think ultimately Brady just needs to focus on the suspension at hand, because  even if Judge Berman wipes it out the appeal will drag on into next year. Does Brady want to put another trial on top of that? I’d guess no.

And really, I think there’s been plenty of damage done right back on the NFL with the way they’ve handled it. We’re seeing it today with Mike Freeman’s article that even the owners aren’t too happy.

Why not Evan Mathis? The Pats aren’t particularly deep at guard, trading for Groy as a camp body speaks volumes in my mind. Is Mathis an issue of $$$ or something else?

August 21, 2015 by Mike Dussault

Belichick’s every move always goes back to improving the team and as much as I am excited about Shaq Mason, I don’t think there’s any doubt Mathis would improve the Patriots this season. But yes, it’s all about money and I just don’t think the Patriots could pay Mathis what he wants.

Mathis was unhappy getting $5.5 million from the Eagles this season. The Patriots currently have about $6.9 million in cap space. So unless Mathis gets desperate and the Patriots cut a big contract or two, I just don’t see how it could work.

Some context: the Pats signed veteran guard Brian Waters to a two-year, $3 million dollar deal in 2011.

Even Goodell’s Supporters Are Baffled

Even Goodell’s Supporters Are Baffled

Ruh roh Rog. This is still very tempered from the anonymous owners, but still it’s clear that they’re wondering why every time there’s a controversy the commish’s handling of it makes it ten times worse.

My biggest problem is the “we all voted to give him absolute power” take. YEah you all accepted that, so does that give him a free pass to make the process completely unfair? To plant stories in the press specifically to make the the players look bad? Everyone just has to accept that now?

I think when the players and owners accepted giving the commish this kind of power they thought he’d look at the facts and make a fair ruling. That’s not even close to what has happened time and again.

It’s amazing that all we hear from the league office is “integrity” yet every action they have taken speaks to their complete lack of integrity. It has taken a while but even the owners are waking up.

Travaris Cadet – All 10 runs and 38 receptions from 2014 – YouTube

Some good conversation last night on twitter about the Patriots running backs and I’m excited to see how the Pats will use Cadet. I believe between the uncertainty at the position along with Blount’s Week 1 suspension it makes sense to keep all five, not counting Develin of course though I have him making it too.

I think we see a combination of White/Cadet/Bolden early in the season in the passing down role, with Cadet emerging by the end of the season where he’s the lead guy and they sprinkle White in for a chance of pace.

Of course, Cadet has to get healthy first and we haven’t seen him in a couple weeks.
