Top Pundit Claims New England are ‘Legit’ Super Bowl Contenders, But Are They?

November 28, 2021 by Florence Marceau

Controversial sports mouthpiece Stephen A. Smith is clearly well-known for voicing outrageous opinions in search of column inches and attention. Usually, he does so with the ambition of rocking the boat and angering individual players or coaches, but on this occasion, his latest claim is less bombastic than normal.

Smith believes that the New England Patriots, who are in red-hot form of late, are now a genuine Super Bowl contender, and to be honest, he’s not far off the mark. Clearly, Bill Belichick’s side fell in a big way once Tom Brady left for Tampa Bay and last season was nothing short of disastrous, but in 2021 things are looking up at the Gillette Stadium.

Now, if you are looking for the New England Patriots best odds to win the Super Bowl, then you will probably find a price of around (+1400), which is just long enough to warrant a wager, and those odds could have been even steeper when you consider the season started poorly for the Pats.

New England hosts the Tennessee Titans: Predictions!

November 26, 2021 by Clare Cooper

Staff Photo By Matt Stone/MediaNews Group/Boston Herald

With tummies still full of turkey, ham, pie, or whatever delights you chose for your Thanksgiving feast (if you do celebrate at all of course) we look forward towards the next Patriots game. The Titans are coming to town!

What many are penning as not an easy match up, the Titans and Patriots have their fair share of names on the injury reports.

At the time of writing this the Patriots have 12 players that did not participate in practice, or were of limited availability, on Thursday 25th November. The Titans presently reporting 8 did not participates, 7 limited availabilities and 1 full availability.

So, many, many names there to keep your sharp eyes on (as a very dear colleague and friend of mine likes to say).

But with the Titan’s running game in question this could be a very defense heavy game for the Patriots, cue Matt Judon. Awesomeness. But one man can not carry the team alone, and not to state the obvious, but this win will take a combined effort of the team to really show the Titans what the 2021 Patriots are all about.

So with that in mind, the Pats Prop crew have put forward their predictions.

Go Pats!

The Titans offense is in trouble right now, Adrian Peterson didn’t work out, nor the replacement for King Henry. I’ll be at the game on Sunday, and the Pats have always won with me in attendance (1-0). LFG!

Patriots 30 Titans 14

From Tom Shaw-Mellors (currently on location in Boston!)

The Titans are a very solid team but their offensive depletions can’t be ignored. If the Patriots continue to roll with the positive progress of the last few games, and the offense can beat out the Titans good defense, this should be another nice one for the win column.

Sunday round-up!

November 22, 2021 by Clare Cooper

There may not have been a Patriots game but there was plenty of crazy yesterday. So, instead of a recap this morning I have a little league wide sum up. Here are your Sunday scores from around the league…

The Colts spanked the Bills, KC found their feet, kinda, and beat the Cowboys, WFT beat the Bucs last week and the Panthers this week, and in the last few moments the Vikings stole the game from the Packers.

Talk about up is down and down is up right now, oh and the Houston Texans beat the Tennessee Titans (yep you read that correctly folks).

So the scores on the doors for Sunday were:

Bears13Ravens16
Vikings34Packers31
Bills15Colts41
Browns13Lions10
Panthers21WFT27
Titans13Texans22
Jags1049ers30

The Patriots streak a win in Atlanta!

November 19, 2021 by Clare Cooper

Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images

Hi there Patriots Nation, to all my fellow UK fans, I wish you oodles and oodles of coffee on this sleep deprived Friday!

So, another win against the Atlanta Falcons huh?

It wasn’t an easy, utterly clean game, there were a few blips on the radar with this one, but the defense was definitely bringing the nasty against the Falcons and Matt Ryan.

As well as the Patriots ran the ball, they went 4 for 12 on third down, and that’s not great when you compare it to last week particularly. But the Patriots defense still found a way to shut out the Falcons, and please excuse the colourful language here, spanked, a solid, veteran quarterback.

For the tight endage enthusiast, it was a little slim pickings this week. Hunter Henry played 32 of the snaps (50%) and was more often than not, heavily covered when running routes. When Nelson Agholor caught his touchdown, Hunter had three guys covering him. The Falcons cottoned on that he was a regular target of Mac Jones, his go-to tight end, and they kept him closed down. There was a beautiful, beautiful, catch towards the end of the third quarter, a nice li’l sweet treat for me, but this was undone by a throw from Mac towards Jonnu Smith for an interception. Boo.

Speaking of interceptions, the Patriots had, four. One for each of the Falcons quarterbacks and then a spare. Mr Interception himself, JC Jackson had one, well that’s becoming a given, right? Adrian Phillips and Devin McCourty didn’t want to be left out, and finally Kyle Van Noy, who took it for 35 yards, and a touchdown. Exactly what the word fabulousness was created for!

Matt Judon, a name to star on my game recap every week, stacked up another sack and that’s 10.5 for his New England Patriots season so far, SO FAR!

Kyle Dugger brought it again this week with six tackles and some glorious blocks. My favourite was towards the end of the third quarter where he just pancaked Isaiah Oliver to the floor, you could almost hear the ‘boom’.

Another name that I should create a shortcut for, as I am typing it every week, is Jakob Johnson. This guy is slapping the face of anyone who thinks a fullback isn’t important, and I love it! With the quality of his blocking, and his integration into plays a little more, I don’t think I’m remiss in saying he is having his best Patriots season so far.

And on the note of effective blocking, from the result of that, Damien Harris ran like a freight train. Sometimes he was so quick I almost lost him! This week showed an even split of runs between Rhamondre Stevenson (now officially to be referred to as ‘Mondre, hey, if it’s good enough for the beloved David Andrews, it’s definitely good enough for me!) and Damien Harris. ‘Mondre notching up 12 attempts for 69 yards, and Harris 10 attempts for 56 yards.

Okay, that’s enough of me for this week folks! I’m off to top up my coffee.

Go Pats!

PatsProp Preview – Thursday Night In Atlanta

November 17, 2021 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Patriots head into Atanta on the short week at 6-4 on the season, having won four straight games. It’s a different story for the Falcons as they sit at 4-5 in the midst of a roster rebuild, with many questions about their future still unanswered. Here’s your preview of tomorrow’s game!

One’s To Watch

Mac Jones

On the back of his best performance to date, Mac Jones has no time to rest on his laurels as he prepares for the first short week of his young NFL career. Jones should be brimming with confidence heading into this one, the Falcons have been dreadful all season on defense, especially in the secondary, and their front has left a lot to be desired in the form of any sort of pass-rush.

Mac should be fun to watch tomorrow night.

Rhamondre Stevenson

Damien Harris was not on the Pats official injury report today, paving the way for him to be active tomorrow. Stevenson could very well lead the backfield once again even if Harris is able to go, as I wouldn’t expect him to have a full workload, especially so soon after a concussion.

Trent Brown

Brown was man-handling players on Sunday, and it was FREAKY to watch. The sheer size and strength of this human is unfathomable, and the run game behind him certainly looked a lot better. Whilst he’s healthy and out there playing, keep one eye on the right side of the offensive line.

Hunter Henry

Henry has established himself as the top scoring threat on the roster over the last couple of months, keep an eye on him tomorrow, especially in the red area.

Jakob Johnson

The German freight train’s performances have gone under the radar for many, but he really stood out to me on Sunday. He’s been a key part in getting the ball moving on the ground, he’s really making the position his own and will be important again tomorrow.

Matt Judon

Mr Sleeves is going for the Patriots’ single-season sack record, and I think he’ll get it with time to spare. I’m feeling a couple more for him tomorrow night whilst trying to force Matt Ryan into making silly mistakes and turning the ball over.

Soaring Falcons

Who for the Falcons could cause problems for the Patriots? Well, I only really thing there can be two.

Kyle Pitts

The rookie tight end is an absolute PHENOM, I got to see him live at one of the London games last month and he is ridiculous. His catch radius because of his tall, lanky physique gives him a big advantage over corners. With no Calvin Ridley, Pitts has been towing the Falcons offense on his back, the Patriots need to plan for him.

Cordarrelle Patterson

The former Patriot has enjoyed a rejuvinated career in Atlanta, becoming one of their most dynamic weapons on an offense which has struggled this year. Patterson has been battling an ankle injury this week and is officially questionable to play, but if he does, he’ll be heavily involved.

Patriots Defense

For the third-straight week I’m picking the Patriots D as your fantasty PPR start! This unit has really become something over the last month, currently averaging 9.30 points per game and is ranked #2 in the PPR league defensive charts.

Prediction Corner

@ShawMellors – Patriots 24 – Falcons 10

I haven’t said this yet, but the Patriots have the superior team and in greater form than Atlanta, I think they’ll head into an extended break with another win. Patriots 24 Falcons 10

@clazzyclare – Patriots 30 – Falcons 10

With the cream of the crop of Atlanta possibly depleted and the Patriots playing so well against the Browns this feels like a should be win. Patriots 30 Falcons 10

Patriots Ups & Downs Week 10

November 15, 2021 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

BOOM! The Pats move to 6-4 on the season following a 45-7 demolition job of the Cleveland Browns. Coming into this one, I don’t think I was in the minority by thinking it was going to be close, but boy, I was wrong! Here are your Ups & Downs from Week 10.

Ups ⬆️

Mac Jones

This was Mac’s best game for the Patriots, he finished up 19/23 – 198 YDS – 3 TDs, finding Hunter Henry twice along with a superb pass to Kenrick Bourne. Mac has been quieter in the last couple of games and not had the same sort of production we saw in the first few weeks, but today he made his throws, didn’t make errors, and got the ball into the endzone. Really positive stuff, Mac was great.

Rhamondre Stevenson

No Damien Harris proved to be no problem for the Patriots as rookie running back Rhamondre Stevenson had a fruitful afternoon at Gillette Stadium, rushing for 100 YDS and 2 TDs! A real viewing of what the kid can do, an excellent runner who time and again found ways forward for extra yards.

His work when the Pats were backed up to their own one-yard line sticks out to me, he really got the offense out of an awkward spot, at the end leading to a 90-yard touchdown drive.

Kyle Dugger + Defensive Backs

Another positive week for Dugger who has really stepped things up in recent weeks. He earned his third interception of the year as he stole from Mayfield early in the game, leading to a touchdown. He’s really giving me confidence for the future at the safety position, I think he could be a long-term Patriot.

The rest of the secondary unit was great all game, with no flags, and no real mistakes. J.C. Jackson deserves a special mention as he was everywhere on the field today and should have probably had himself another pick. This defense is really starting to shape into a formidable unit.

Hunter Henry

The touchdown machine, Hunter Henry. Another stellar performance by big 85 as he cemented himself as Mac’s go-to redzone target, 4/4 – 37 YDS – 2 TDS. Henry now has seven touchdowns on the year, all of which came in the last eight games I might add, he’s been brilliant this year, and he was brilliant again yesterday.

Matt Judon

A big congratulations to Mr and Mrs Sleeves this week as they welcomed a new addition to the family! Judon was back with the team on Sunday and was busy when rushing the Cleveland QBs (which was most of the day). After being credited with half a sack, Judon equalled his career high sack tally of 9.5, and we still got seven games to go! He’s been the best FA additon by a mile this year.

Jakobi Meyers

It finally happened, we got to see Jakobi Meyers score his first career NFL touchdown! Unreal scenes followed as the entire team ran to celebrate with him in the endzone, Meyers also confirmed later than his number one fan, his dad, was in attendance to see the big moment. I can’t think of a more hard-working and selfless player on this current Pats roster than Jakobi, I’m so pleased for him, I hope he’s a Patriot for many years to come.

No downs from me this week, nobody deserves it a win like that. Short week, on to Atlanta, LFG!
