Good way to kick off a bye week Friday. Last time we won’t have Pats football this weekend until the next bye week, if you know what I mean. (via Tom Brady 2001 Highlights – YouTube)

Bill Belichick mic’d up for Jaguars vs. Patriots (Week 3) | Sound FX | NFL Films

Great stuff, can never get enough of BB being miked up obvs. When Gus Bradley thanks him it’s somewhat how I imagine myself speaking to BB one day. An awkward, intimidated “no for reals, I love you man”. But it was nice of BB to acknowledge what Bradley’s doing with the Jaguars and then he throws the “hope you get healthy” after the postgame handshake, almost as if to say “maybe we wouldn’t have hung 50 on you if you had all your guys”.

McCourty getting an earful for passing on picking up that fumble was a good moment too. Not often you hear a captain getting reamed, if you can really even call it a reaming.

Love our front 7 and offensive line depth. My only concern: our depth at CB. While we may have less depth at RB, it’s easier to replace the position. Do you believe the current group can survive any inevitable attribution and can they compete against elite passers in the playoffs? Butler is great and McCourty could jump over in a pinch, but still. Your thoughts?

I’m not really as worried about corner as a lot of people out there. Seems like everyone is projecting trades for corners and BB keeps trading for every position but that one. I’ve even had some asking me if we’re going to trade for a #1 corner so Butler can slide back to the #2 role.

I think Butler and Tarrell Brown are fine as the top two corners. I do have concerns about the slot spot – Bradley Fletcher is probably done, Logan Ryan is inconsistent at best and while Justin Coleman looked okay in his premiere, he’s still a rookie who doesn’t look quite ready to lock down the slot going forward.

But for me it just goes back to the front seven because if they’re dominating like they should, the deficiencies at the slot corner spot will be covered. You just can’t have an all-star at every position. I highly doubt we’re going to end this season thinking if we had only had a great third corner we would’ve won the Super Bowl.

A lot is being made in New England of Bill Belichick’s strategy to use multiple offensive linemen early in the season. Most of it has to do with getting the two rookie guards, Shaq Mason and Tre’ Jackson, some much-needed reps. Actually, coaches have been crazier in their NFL rotations. With the Buccaneers, starting in 1992, line coach Bob Wylie used two totally different line shifts to keep his players fresh in the Florida heat. “We actually used a platoon back at Holy Cross,” says Wylie, who coached there in the 1980s and was in the NFL for 15 years before landing in the CFL with Winnipeg. “With Tampa, the other teams would be struggling with the heat, and our guys would be fresh in the fourth quarter. Good to see somebody brought it back.”

Interesting nugget from Bedard and it features a shoutout to my alma mater Holy Cross!

Here are some highlights of new Patriots Akiem Hicks and I think it’s a pretty good depth move for their interior DT spots. He gives the Patriots another big option inside, somewhat in the mold of Alan Branch. Hard to get too excited about any new player, they’ll throw him in the mix and see how he does. But the sheer number of trades this season has been unprecedented. The Patriots never sit still, they’re always tweaking the roster as much as they can to give them a strong 53 guys. Tom Brady gets 400th-TD ball from fan in exchange for signed gear

Was waiting for this story to get out after Amendola gave the 400 TD ball away. Now all we need is more leftover Deflategate complaints about Brady just signing stuff to get what he wants. The nerve!

Patriots line combos make foes dizzy

Patriots line combos make foes dizzy

Great read from Jeff Howe on the Pats’ rotation along the offensive line. Last year we thought the rotation was based on how the Patriots were dissatisfied with their performance, but now what we’re seeing is that it’s very much by design to not only get everyone experienced but also to build depth. The fact that it causes problems for the defense is only the icing on top. We’ll see how long it continues or if they settle in on a starting five once Stork and Wendell are back, but for now it’s really working.

More Edelman!

Since there are so many Edelman fans out there in cyberspace, here’s his second best play from the Dolphins game. It’s nice to see good things out of JuJu and Taylor Price, we sure could’ve used wide receiver depth like this in 2009. It will be hard for them to get on the field with […]
