End of the Line for the Crable Bandwagon

July 28, 2010 by Mike Dussault

For the past few months we’ve been hyping Shawn “Crazy Legs” Crable as the 2010 Patriots Breakout Player… unless he got cut. It’s important to note that the “unless he gets cut” addendum was always added when talking about Crable. Seriously, search “Crable” on this blog and you’ll see for yourself.

Just days ago on PatsPulpit.com I rated him my number one most intriguing player in training camp. Then on Tuesday he gets put on the PUP list and today he gets cut.

It was an inglorious end to an inglorious career and while we can make fun of Crable and talk about what a disappointment he was, it’s a pretty safe bet that no one is more disappointed or upset than Crable himself. A week ago he was preparing for camp (as to how hard he was preparing only he knows for sure) hoping he could finally overcome the injury bug and become an NFL linebacker.

Today he’s probably hoping another team might take a flyer on him, and if not, wondering what he’s going to do with his life.

We weren’t on the Crable bandwagon hoping he would fail, so while most of the internet is abuzz at what a bust he was in a mean spirited tone, we just want to wish Crable the best. Time to put that Michigan education to use.

And it’s time for PatsPropaganda.com to build a new bandwagon. Any suggestions?

From what I understand, they’re gutting out the whole place,” Brown said this afternoon at Mohegan Sun Casino where he was speaking to a group at the Comcast Sportsnet football roundtable. “There’s no pictures of Troy Brown, there’s no pictures of Tedy Bruschi, no pictures of Rodney Harrison in the building. It’s all wiped off. It’s (saying), ‘Get your own identity. Get a name for yourseflves and don’t worry about what Troy Brown did or Rodney Harrison did for this football team.’ …That’s gonna be the key to this year is, ‘Can these guys get their own identity?’ Forget about the past and how successful they were let’s be successful in our own way.

Sporting News: Mayo #3 Ranked 3-4 ILB

Wow, kinda surprised Mayo gets this much love since he wasn’t quite the same player he was as a rookie due to a knee injury in 2009. Not a lot of people are talking about how much better Mayo should be this year, could be a major factor.

Patsfans’ Ian Logue Has Notes on Crable

Patsfans’ Ian Logue Has Notes on Crable

Some speculation why he might’ve been IR’d, but let me say this, if a guy known for his speed, who’s basically on his last chance to be an NFL football player fails a conditioning test it’s almost more unforgivable than if he was injured again.

Don Banks/SI has the Jets #1 in Preseason Power Rankings

Don Banks/SI has the Jets #1 in Preseason Power Rankings

Good for them! Hey, as a Patriots fan we’ve been ranked number one in preseason polls probably 80% of the the time in the last 8 years, and what we’ve learned is that a lot of things need to go right to be the only team standing at the end.

Personally I enjoy the Jets love fest this offseason while the Patriots quietly reload in the shadows. When you’re in the spotlight every team brings their A game every week against you, so that will be something new for the NYJs. As I’ve said all along it just comes down to Mark Sanchez, as he goes so will the Jets.

Still if I was a Saints or Colts fan I’d be pretty fired up right now.

PUP Platter: Crable, Welker, Weston Start Off Unable to Perform

July 27, 2010 by Mike Dussault

It’s a sad and disappointing morning here at the Propaganda HQ and it has nothing to do with Wes Welker starting off on the PUP list. Welker can still return at any time during camp, and honestly I expected them to bring him along slowly. We all know what Welker can do, and the Patriots need him at the end of the season not at the start. This will give the young WRs to get a lot of quality reps and should help boost their development. Because as much as we need a healthy Wes Welker, we need some complimentary receivers almost as much.

No, my disappointment all revolves around Crazy Legs Crable, the player I picked as my most intriguing Patriot just last night. This morning I awake to find that Crable has injured himself for the third straight year. I’ve been pimping Crable all offseason. He was drafted two years ago to fill what is one of the biggest voids on the Pats and he’s shown flashes in limited preseason time. He’s a likeable guy, who seemed like he just got unlucky with injuries two years in a row.

Well this makes three years and I’m sure that Crable shares my disappointment and embarrassment. He can still be activated at any time, but every day that goes by where he’s not on the field is a day closer to being out of football. Would the Patriots put him on IR for a third straight year? That’d have to be some kind of record.

Oh and rookie Kade Weston was PUP’d too, that one ain’t really a big deal. Let’s be happy these were the only 3 guys on the PUP list though. The Patriots start camp as healthy as they’ve been in a long time.
