Time to Stop Crying About The Jets and Focus on the Bills

September 21, 2010 by Mike Dussault

The Bills have not beaten the Patriots since the 2003 opener so it might be easy to look past them this week. But here’s a couple reminders…

  • The Bills should’ve beaten the Patriots in last years opener.
  • The Bills beat both the Dolphins and the Jets last year.

I know it’s hard to get excited to watch the Patriots play a team they’ve beaten 13 straight times, but that streak is going to end at some point. If it’s this weekend it could be catastrophic for the Pats division chances, especially if Miami moves to 3-0 (2-0 in AFCE).

We look at the Bills and we see a team that will have a new quarterback, and ranks dead last in the NFL in almost every offensive category. But let’s not forget the Patriots are a young team on defense, and this Bills team is going to run a fair share of spread offense, and have three running backs that can all move the ball.

The Patriots should win this game, especially being at home. But young teams often take games they perceive as “easy” lightly. This will not be a cakewalk. Our young secondary and run stoppers will be tested.

The Jets game is over. This Sunday’s game against the Bills is as close to must win as you can get in week three.

Tuesday’s are usually the off days in the NFL, so today we’ll try to turn the page from the disappointing Jets loss to the Bills game with a little history lesson. Whether you’re a new Patriots fans or been with them since the early days we should all appreciate the 1976 Patriots. They will also serve as a good reminder of what real disappointment is, putting a week two loss in perspective.

If you didn’t hate the Raiders before, you surely will after watching this…

History note: Coach Chuck Fairbanks was the founding father of the 3-4 defense the Patriots play today.

Don’t Click This Link If You’re Feeling Bad About the Patriots…

Don’t Click This Link If You’re Feeling Bad About the Patriots…

….because it will only make you feel worse. I think the whole “genius” thing was pretty stupid to begin with. Basically BB got called a genius because he’s shut down some good offenses with his Super Bowl defenses. That doesn’t make him capable of turning rookies and second/third year defenders immediately into a Super Bowl defense.  Give it time folks, all these young players are being well coached. It just takes time.

Patriots Fan Gets Free Tickets to Jets Game from Edge

September 20, 2010 by Mike Dussault

Getting tickets to an NFL game these days can be pretty irritating. You’ll be lucky to find a face value ticket to see a good team play, and more often you’re left to scour ebay and online ticket sites that jack up the prices.

Matthew DeCoste was a Patriots fan in New York who was having a hard time finding a ticket to this past weekend’s debacle against the Jets. After tweeting about his frustration the folks at Edge Shave Zone heard his complaints and gave him two tickets to the game as part of their new Anti-Irritation Twitter campaign.

Why can’t more companies give away free tickets to games? Maybe it’s a good time to complain about how irritating it has been finding a ticket to the Pats/Chargers game on 10/24 for me…

Or maybe I should tweet how irritating I find the Jets in general, tag it with #SoIrritating and see what kind of creative solutions the Edge guys can come up with? Perhaps they could shaving cream bomb the Jets headquarters? That was a popular method of retribution at my prep school.

Anyway, a couple questions with Matthew, who witnessed the carnage in person, below.

How did you become a Patriots fans/any roots in New England?

I was born and raised in Boston so I’ve been a lifelong Patriots fan. From Grogan, to Hugh Millen, Drew Bledsoe and now Brady, I’ve followed the Pats through it all.

What was your overall impression of the new stadium?

The new stadium is extremely impressive. Getting off the PATH and into the gates was pretty seamless. The concourses are large so there is a lot of room to move around inside and the concession lines were unbelievably quick. They stopped selling beer at halftime, so that was a minus. But, overall, it was a great venue to catch a game.

Did you get an “irritation” from any Jets fans?

There were a few Pats fans in my vicinity that were pretty vocal, so they caught most of the trash talk from Jets fans. But, there was a guy sitting in front of me—who admitted he is a Giants fan—that kept turning around and blocking my view with a Jets towel when the Pats had the ball. So that was pretty irritating. Reminding Jets fans that they haven’t won a Super Bowl since the year Nixon took office was fun, though.

What were your most and least favorite moments from the day?

Seeing the entire play of Randy Moss’s unbelievable touchdown catch develop in person was amazing. He made his break towards the middle of the field and Brady identified it, and just threw a perfect lead pass towards the end zone. Randy just putting one hand up, catching the ball, and then never using a second hand to secure it was pretty insane.

My least favorite moment was the entire second half. The Patriots just slowly falling apart and opening up all of us Pats fans to a half hour (of game time, mind you. More like an hour in real time) of torment from Jets fans was particularly unpleasant.

The Patriots are a young team, which means they will make mistakes as the year goes along. The loss to the Jets was part of that growing process that, if they continue to practice and grow, will benefit them in November and December.

10 New Belichick Hoodie Facts

By now you’re probably getting sick of the Bill Belichick Hoodie Database. I know I am, but with the help of a great Patriots fan twitter user @fearthe_beard11 I’ve been able to fill in all but ONE hole in the database going all the way back to 2003. (If anyone has the 2003 at Eagles game […]
