For the record, I’ve spoken to a few people behind the scenes and while I can’t give specifics, believe me that everything you’ve heard about Moss arguing with coaches this season is about half as bad as it actually was. From a stat analyst perspective, the trade makes no sense, but from a team psychology perspective, it had to happen.

New Look Patriots Face a Difficult Second Quarter of 2010

October 8, 2010 by Mike Dussault

We knew going into this season that a fast start would be essential for thePatriots to maintain their playoff hopes. Had they faltered like Miami did, losing 2 of 3 division games, it would be a long, hard road to get into the tournament.

I doubt there are many of us that wouldn’t have taken a 3-1 record if offered it before the season started. It hasn’t always been pretty, but as Bill Parcells said “you are what you are” and the Patriots are still in the division race.

The next four games against the Baltimore Ravens, San Diego Chargers,Minnesota Vikings and Cleveland Browns are a daunting task. That’s three 2009 playoff teams, and a Browns team that are no longer pushovers.

Analysis of a tough 2010 quarter number two after the jump…

And the beat goes on. Excited to see some more of Julian Edelman and maybe even some Taylor Price in the coming weeks.

LaCanfora: Strong Chance Mankins/VJax Report Anyway

Of course just after I post about the potential trade talk, The Can posts this about the language in the CBA making it likely they could be in the same situation next year if they don’t report. I think a trade still makes sense. Mankins and VJax have both had acrimonious holdouts. Why not give both of them a fresh start across the country from the teams they’ve been battling with?

Curran: Pats/Chargers Talking VJax for Mankins

File this in the “take it with a grain of salt” file considering Tom E’s usually hit or miss, but a Mankins for Vincent Jackson trade has to make sense for both clubs at this point. The problem is that the Chargers brass aren’t big fans of the Patriots. Just a couple years ago their entire personnel philosophy was based on beating the Pats so I’m sure they’re not exactly jumping up and down about giving a beast of a wide receiver in his prime to the Pats. Mankins would certainly make it a little easier.
