“Going into the fourth quarter of the game, you could see the defense growing up,” Mayo said. “We’re getting better with some big stops in overtime. I know everybody who was watching as a spectator was like, ‘The Ravens are getting the ball back, probably won’t stop them, the game’ll probably be over.’ I’m sure you were one of those guys. But guys went out there and did an excellent job, making the stops when we need to.”

“This is a no-name defense. That’s how we like it. Let me say this, it’s getting better. It’s not where we want it to be, but it’s getting better.”

The Patriots Should Have Sacks with Chargers

The Patriots Should Have Sacks with Chargers

In case you missed it last weekend the St. Louis Rams put Philip Rivers, he of the shotput throwing style, on the turf 7 times. This article breaks down the breakdowns. Would it be too bold of a prediction to say Shawn Crable gets career sack #1 this weekend?

ESPN Rookie Watch: Hernandez #5

ESPN Rookie Watch: Hernandez #5

The Patriots’ Aaron Hernandez is number five and Devin McCourty gets an honorable mention, but when you think of the all the Pats rookies and second year players that are forming the core of this team you can’t help but be really, really excited.

The thought of having another draft like we had in 2010 in 2011 is frightening. Already in 2010 there are 6 real impact rookies, (Hernandez, McCourty, Spikes, Cunningham, Gronkowski, Mesko) and two undrafted guys (Deaderick, Fletcher) who are seeing more and more time.

The Patriots will have needs to fill in 2011, especially along the lines, but there are a lot of solid, talented pieces in place for this team to dominate the next decade.

I’m sure Bill Belichick has shown some lowlights this week of this 30-10 drubbing back from 2008. I had purchased tickets to this one in the middle of the summer, then Brady got hurt and well… needless to say it was little less exciting. I still can’t get the “we got more bounce in California” song out of my head.

The worst part of the whole day was knowing I would probably catch some flack about TB12’s injury, I mentally prepared a comeback. The Chargers had lost Shawne Merriman for the year as well so I told myself, if anyone makes a Brady ACL comment come right back with a Merriman comment.

Well, I’m walking into the stadium, decked out in Pats garb and some Charger fan comes up and pats me on the shoulder and asks “how’s Brady’s knee”. And what did I say back? Nothing. I froze. I blame the excessive amount of alcohol in my system. But it was a total George Costanza “that’s what I should’ve said!” moment.

At least this weekend I’ll still be able to use Merriman as a comeback.

Patriots at Chargers Tailgate Plan

October 21, 2010 by Mike Dussault

For those of you New England Patriots fans headed down to San Diego this weekend here’s what a huge clan of Pats fans will be doing. Barry Inciong organizes an entire weekend of fun whenever the Patriots play in San Diego. I’ve pasted in the itinerary below. I won’t be there Saturday night but hope to meet lots of Patriots fans at the tailgate on Sunday.

SATURDAY NIGHT PARTY

We’ll be having a private party at Players Sports Bar, 7061 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, San Diego, CA 92111 on Saturday, 10/23 6pm – 8pm
http://playerssportsbar.com/

Players is a popular Boston bar with plenty of Pats sports memorabilia and we’ll be in a private area with plenty of TVs.  It’s located just 1.5 miles from the Courtyard Hotel in case you want to cab it.  The Courtyard Hotel may run shuttles for us.

While we are hoping to have some special guests join us, we won’t know for sure until they actually show up.  If you were with us in Seattle in 2008 or Denver in 2009 you probably have a good idea of who has been invited.

We’ll have a salad, pasta and pizza buffet (soft drinks also included, bar drinks are on your own). Cost will be $20 at the door.  Advance payments are no longer being accepted.

A list of people that payment has been received from can be found at the end of this document.

TAILGATE PARTY

If anyone is going straight to Qualcomm early to get in as soon as the gates open (and not joining our caravan) please contact me as I’d like to have someone who can give us a report on gate openings, traffic, etc.

As we’ve done in past years, we’ll be tailgating right between G4 and H4 which can be reached through Gate 3 by going west to east on Friar’s Road.
http://www.sandiego.gov/qualcomm/pdf/parkmap.pdf

Note that you do not need a prepaid parking pass to enter this area.  Parking is $25 per vehicle.  There is no additional charge for attending our tailgate party.

Rather than coordinating food and drink as a group, everyone should bring their own.  However for the benefit of those who are from out of town or are coming in on the trolley, I will have water, beer and hot dogs available for $1 each with all profits going to charity (New England Patriots Charitable Foundation Kick Cancer Campaign and San Diego United Way).

Welp folks, I just purchased tickets to this weekend’s Pats-Chargers game and I’ll be sitting two rows in back of the Patriots bench. You know, just in case they need me for anything. Very exciting.

After seeing the steady progress and development of the rookie WR’s during the first few games, it was both shocking and depressing to see how flat the offense was against Cinci. How much of that can you blame on a good defense (this was the same team that beat Green Bay) vs. the players not making plays (when they were coming along better)? How much fault, if any, should we put in Brady’s hands? And will the Pats actually try to RUN the ball against the Saints, like they NEED to do to win?

You touch on solid points and I think all are partially true. Look, anyone who has ever played sports can probably tell you there are certain games where you just don’t have it. You’ll lose to a crappy team, much less a good team on the road. Here are three simple explanations: The Bengals have […]
