Let’s not forget that one time the Steelers beat the Pats at Heinz.

CHFF: Power Rankings – What a Difference a Week Makes!

10. NEW ENGLAND (6-2)
Last week:
 34-14 loss at Cleveland
The Cold, Hard Football Facts: The Patriots have faced a very average set of quarterbacks through eight games, but collectively they’re playing just as well as Tom Brady (Brady passer rating, 95.7; Defensive Passer Rating, 93.9).

Patriots Practice Squad Reset

Patriots Practice Squad Reset

Patriots’ practice squad:
QB Jonathan Crompton
CB Tony Carter
S Ross Ventrone
OT Steve Maneri
OL Thomas Austin
TE Carson Butler
CB Thad Turner
DL Lorenzo Washington

I find it kind of weird that there’s no OLBs on here when last year there were always at least a couple of them.

Boston Globe: Interesting Steelers Nuggets

  • Rank fourth in total yardage allowed and 24th against the pass. Steelers have the NFL’s top run defense (58.3 yards). No team has rushed for more than 75 yards against Pittsburgh (Tampa in Week 3).
  • Steelers have allowed 11 touchdowns in eight games and lead the league with 15.4 points allowed per game. They have a league-leading 21 takeaways (also No. 1 with plus-9 in takeaway/turnover ratio).
  • Steelers defense is tied for fifth with 24 sacks.
  • They have out-rushed seven of their eight opponents by an average of almost 60 yards.
  • The touchdown Pittsburgh scored to open Monday night’s game against the Bengals ended a five-game scoreless drought on a game-opening drive (touchdown or field goal).
  • Steelers have scored three times (two TDs, FG) to open their eight games. They have two field goals to open the second half in eight games.
  • Pittsburgh has struggled on offense. It is 28th overall – 12th rushing and 27th passing.
  • Steelers’ average passing yards (181.9) is 41.5 yards below the league average.
  • WR Mike Wallace leads the NFL with 23.0 yards per reception.

Steelers Will Start Backup at Left Tackle

November 10, 2010 by Mike Dussault

Steelers Will Start Backup at Left Tackle

If we had some kind of a pass rushing monster I might think is a little bit of a bigger deal, but it could make a little bit of a difference in where the Pats decide to stick big Vince.

I was surprised last week to see Myron Pryor at nose and Mike Wright at RDE when it seems their specialty for most of the year has been pass rush. So this week I’m going to go on a limb and say we see a Brace-Wilfork-Warren front three.

Or perhaps it makes sense to put Vince at LDE and dare the Steelers to run the defensive right side. Make them predictable and it’s advantage Pats D.

    Steelers DVOA Kinda Scary

November 10, 2010 by Mike Dussault

In taking a gander at the Steerlers DVOA rankings from Football Outsiders I was hoping to find a fatal flaw that the Patriots might hope to exploit, but there certainly isn’t one jumping off the page.

The Steelers are 2nd in defensive DVOA (4th vs. pass, 1st vs. run), and 17th in offensive DVOA (15th passing, 17th rushing). So yes the defense looks… uh what’s the word… oh right.. impenetrable, while the offense looks like they might possibly have trouble moving the ball. Of course that’s if the Patriots defense shows up and plays well, something they didn’t do last weekend.

If there was ever a game you could expect the Pats to go spread it has to be this one.
