Going back to last year, the Patriots have consistently made offers to Bauer that would put Mankins second or third among guards.

Several agents who represent high-performing offensive linemen and are familiar with the offer have said they would have taken the Patriots’ offer without much thought.

If Bauer insists on making Mankins the highest-paid guard in the league, maybe he should look elsewhere. In case Bauer hasn’t noticed, the Patriots aren’t in the habit of handing out premier contracts at any position besides quarterback.

WEEI/Bean: Post-combine Mock

WEEI/Bean: Post-combine Mock

17. JJ Watt (DL, Wisconsin): yup, it’s officially a Patriots fan JJ Watt lovefest.

28. Justin Houston (OLB, Georgia): I like Houston, though some have said he doesn’t play with desired intensity. He had the fastest 10-yard split of any of the OLB conversion types **CORRECTION 2nd fastest to one of our favorites Brooks Reed (thx Greg Knopping of PatsPulpit!)**, played in the best college conference, and seems to be sturdy enough to take on the run. My opinion: solid pick, but could he be had at 33?

33. Aaron Williams (CB, Texas): Not a total head scratcher but I think one of these three picks has to be an interior OL. Williams would add another great young cover guy to secondary that must continue to improve.

There was lots of talk about Aldon Smith yesterday on the podcast, with Jay Shields feeling he was a perfect fit for the Patriots defense. He’s definitely raw, but if the Pats are building for long-term success wouldn’t a raw player who could possibly fit your defense really well make sense?

On an Indianapolis sidewalk last week, the agent for Logan Mankins said he’s never seen a head coach work harder to get a deal done than Bill Belichick has worked on Mankins.

Interesting that the Mankins debacle looks like it’s really falling on Mr. Kraft.

Well isn’t this a nice way to kick off Monday morning! Tom Brady in a pony tail and soccer, er… futbol jersey, at Carnival 2011 in Rio de Janiero. You’ll find him and G at the 1:03 mark shaking hand with Brazilian soccer star Ronaldinho.

Looks like the hair ain’t coming off any time soon folks. What do you think of ponytailed TFB, y’all?

And can anyone tell me whose jersey Brady actually has on?

The more sources I talk with the more I get the feeling that the Patriots will not only be in the market for a rush linebacker in round one, but might be willing to buck the trend and look at a smaller/quicker rush guy, staying away from their more patented bigger build.

Bill Simmons: Greed is good in NFL labor talks

March 7, 2011 by Mike Dussault

Must read alert!!! I know I give Simmons a hard time because he has to pretend like he knows as much about football as he does about basketball, but this article is an outstanding read. If you want have the NFL CBA negotiations boiled down into the simplest form, this is the place.

It’s hard to read this and not find yourself even more on the side of the players. The practices of the NFL and the owners are sadly much like many businesses are run today. Without any concern for the people, the environment, or anything else that is not the bottom line.

The ironic part is that it will be this greed that eventually knocks the NFL off it’s lofty pedestal. It might not be this time with the CBA, but whenever you have an organization that has been so committed to “growth” as Roger Goodell’s NFL has been it will inevitably hit a ceiling at some point. Especially when this growth is being manufactured at the expense of the players and fans who made it what it was.

@PatsPropaganda what would *really* be a reasonable punishment for what amounts to questionable at best evidence? — Rick Starke (@rickstarke) May 15, 2015 It’s a very good question. The Wells Report Context site makes a pretty good argument about the Pats being cooperative and more importantly, that there’s the very strong possibility that there’s no […]
