The back and forth between the NFL and FKA-NFLPA continued today with volleys fired from both sides. Right now it seems pretty bleak, and it definitely looks like the impasse will head well into at least the start of training camp.
They only really get down to business when they’re right up against a deadline, so I’m not expecting serious negotiations at least until August hits.
Then it becomes a question of how many regular season games will be lost.
What if it goes into September, how far can it go before the season is lost? November? December?
So not a whole lot to feel great about with the NFL right now. In times like these I just need a little Manning Face to cheer me up.

“Peterson plays like a low-test guy,” one NFL decision maker told PFW on the condition he remain anonymous, “but [if] he’s in ‘cat’ [man-to-man] coverage in the NFL, it’s not as big of an issue as it will be for offensive guys.”
“He’s a press corner,” another longtime evaluator said. “His strong suit is that he can run and press. He won’t play for the Patriots, where he’s disguising coverage after coverage, but I still think he can be a No. 1 shutdown corner.”
Nolan Nawrocki via PFW on Patrick Peterson, consensus best defensive back, and bottom 5 wonderlic guy.
So yeah, this will drop the guy I have #2 overall on my Patriots big board.

Patriots OLB Pass Rush prospect: Greg Romeus
Romeus is coming off an injury, could be a mid-round pick up who could project to a weakside OLB.

The Patriots were the league’s fourth most conservative defense when it came to blitzing last season. They rushed four or fewer defenders on 73.7 percent of dropbacks. Generating more pressure out of the standard four-man rush – which is a priority for most teams – should be high on Bill Belichick’s offseason list. This is reflected in the Patriots registering sacks on only 3.7 percent of dropbacks with four or fewer pass rushers (tied-27th in NFL).
When the Patriots did blitz, sending five or more rushers, opposing quarterbacks weren’t under enough consistent pressure. Quarterbacks completed 63.9 percent of their passes against the Patriots’ blitz, ranking New England 31st in that category. Opponents’ 43.2 percentage converting first downs against the blitz also ranked the Patriots 31st.

17. JJ Watt
28. Danny Watkins
I know I’m higher on Watkins than a lot of people who think he’s too old, but if he can step right in and play it doesn’t really bother me that much. I mean we got 6 years out of Mankins and he could likely be gone, we’d easily get 6 out of Watkins.
Mankins is currently getting some extra attention by virtue of the Patriots moving him from left guard to left tackle after starter Nate Solder went down with a concussion two weeks ago. You can count on one hand the number of left guards in the league who could make that move without drowning. Mankins was […]
