Havens/PatsFans.com: Catching up with Brooks Reed
Nice job by Derek Havens talking to one of the personal fave prospects. Unfortunately, given the success of Clay Matthews, a team will see the long hair and think Reed is a Clay clone and take him way too high. But if he drops to the mid-second round I’d love to see the Pats pounce.
In an industry where the employer is carting money, the players have the lowest salaries in any team sport in America, the lowest pensions, the worst collective bargaining agreement, the shortest careers, and the worst and most serious disability rate. That’s what’s on the other side of the table. And nobody is explaining that.

Law Firm spending his off-season boxing
Great read from Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald. It kind of shocked me that Benny had 13 touchdowns last year. How many running backs go undrafted then have their breakout year in their third season?
He kind of embodies everything the Pats look for. Great value (undrafted). Runs hard. Doesn’t fumble. It’s too bad we didn’t see more of him in the playoff loss.
Tonight! Tonight! Tonight! The Brady 6 on ESPN!
Here’s another little preview as an appetizer. I really hope they’re not doing the thing where the give away all their best stuff before it even airs. Because that would suck. I need behind the scenes 2010 footage!!

Tom Brady shows the emotion that has fueled his Hall of Fame career
You’ve probably seen this by now, seems like the entire sporting world is again giving Brady crap, this time for tearing up while talking about waiting to get a call telling him he got drafted.
It’s rare to see an athlete wear his emotions on his sleeve like this and the fact that TFB still get choked up about it shows how much it meant to him. It also shows why he attacks his job like he might not make the team. Without that emotion Brady would not be the quarterback he is.
Think about what those moments would’ve been like for Brady way back when. For the first time he had to contemplate not pursuing a career as a football player, and possibly weighing a random option of what he’d like to do for the rest of his life, like selling insurance.
It’s likely he never really truly considered that possibility until that moment. I’m sure now he imagines what that path might’ve held for him had the Patriots not taken him. A life without fame and fortune, and most of all, getting the chance to be one of the true modern day gladiators.
One thing about sports is they are such a black and white contrast to a grey world. Brady was standing on the precipice losing his dream forever. I often say during football games that you can’t truly appreciate a victory until you’ve accepted that you could very well lose. I feel it’s Brady hold on to those moments when it seemed possible he might never play football again, and uses them as motivation.

No offense can, but the yearly offensive line freakout is always overblown. Pretty sure if Brady takes more than one sack tonight the panic that Scarnecchia is no longer around will set in. But it happens every summer, even when he was here. After quarterback-wide receiver timing, offensive line coordination is the hardest thing on […]
