NFP: Q & A with Patriots Ron Brace

NFP: Q & A with Patriots Ron Brace

I like what I’m hearing out of Brace in this interview, hopefully he can get healthy and be ready to go when football returns.

It’s been an interesting two years for Brace. Based on his size everyone kind of assumed he was nothing more than Wilfork insurance at nose tackle. But last year, after finally passing his physical (is that what he’s referring to in this interview?) he saw a lot of time entirely at left defensive end.

In fact Brace said it was really the only position that he played in training camp, so it will be interesting to find out if that’s really where he projects or if it was solely due to Ty Warren’s injury.

Brace definitely showed some flashes, the most impressive of which had to be the 4th down goal line stop of Adrian Peterson.

Nice job by Patriots Football Place putting this Watt vs. Jordan video together. In my mind this is what it comes down to at 17, but remember, my mind retains the right to know nothing.

NFLN Video: Are Patriots creating a QB smokescreen?

NFLN Video: Are Patriots creating a QB smokescreen?

Here’s Willie Mac breaking down all the QB visits the Pats have been taking. Of course it makes sense to at least try to create the impression that you could draft a quarterback despite Brady still being only 33.

But the thing that no one is talking about is how these soon-to-be-drafter QBs will all probably end up playing against the Patriots at some point down the line. So never underestimate the chance to get a closer look at these guys, not only to find out what their strengths are, but what their weaknesses are.

Hard to believe it’s been seven years since Pat Tillman was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan. If you haven’t seen The Tillman Story documentary I highly recommend you check it out, or read Jon Krakauer’s definitive Where Men Win Glory. It’s a tragic story, but Tillman was an unbelievable individual who we could all learn something from.

One thing not often mentioned is Tillman’s connection to the Patriots and BB. From Peter King:

In the last conversation [Pat] Tillman had with Bauer, he told his agent, “You won’t believe the letter I got from Bill Belichick.” In the letter, Belichick praised him for his courage, his leadership, his willingness to set an example for people in this materialistic society, and he said it was an honor to be in the same league he’d been in. “In the letter,” Bauer told me, “Belichick said, ‘If you ever need a job when you get out of the Army, give me a call.’ ” So what would have happened if Tillman hadn’t been killed? He’d have been 28 at the time of his scheduled discharge… I don’t know what team would have signed him. But the Patriots, even with Rodney Harrison, then 32, ensconced at strong safety, were not deep on the back end, with only one other solid NFL player, Eugene Wilson (let go two years later). After the Belichick letter, I bet Tillman would have walked to Foxboro and taken any role Belichick would have offered.

It was a tragic end to a special life. We can only imagine what Tillman might’ve gone on to do in this world. He was an inquisitive and open-minded individual who didn’t fit the picture that the military painted of him after his death. I am glad that the truth is now out there.

Pat Tillman will never be forgotten.

With the amount of zone blitzes colleges do you’ll see enough examples of those defensive ends dropping into coverage and you try to ear mark those plays and pay particular attention to that because that’s something he’s going to be asked to do. Then when you ask the guy to rush the passer, well, rushing the passer is rushing the passer so if he can do it pretty good in college then you’d think it would translate to the NFL. Likewise, if he can hold up against tackles and not get knocked off the ball on the edge you would think that would be able to translate. Against good competition – not dominating against some lower level teams. Does he do it against the good teams on a consistent basis? That’s where you can kind of get a correlation.

(no title)

I think they’re a little vulnerable coverage-wise on some tight ends. You might be able to get something going there. And be patient with the running game. Make ‘em come down. There should be some vulnerability on the back end if that’s the case. If you can get them to play seven-man spacing, I’d run […]
