ESPN/Reiss: Fletcher surprise contributor in 2010

ESPN/Reiss: Fletcher surprise contributor in 2010

No one can break it down like Reiss, and here is joining a quickly-filling bandwagon for Dane Fletcher. Here’s an interesting nugget:

Fletcher thinks the work with Mayo and about 10-15 other teammates, coupled with more knowledge he’s gained on nutrition through his first year in the NFL, has paid dividends.

“Once I got out of college and got around professional football players, I really pay attention to what I eat and drink now, and everything that I take. The biggest improvement I’ve probably had, between last year and this year, is my nutrition,” he said. “I feel like I’m more lean, not as fatty as I was last year, so I’ve leaned down, but I’m weighing quite a bit more. I’m in way better shape than I was last year.”

Fletcher played last season at around 240-242 pounds. He’s up to the 246-248 range, and he’s encouraged that he feels faster despite the added weight.

Reiss also mentions that Jermaine Cunningham is among those working out with the Mayo group. Many will fail to see how both these items are positive news for the Pats pass rush.

Someone better tell Sammy Morris there’s two rookies fighting over his number. Or should I say “his old number”? Yeah that’s what I thought.

Wes Welker vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers ‘10

I’m just about certain that Welker will lead the NFL in catches again in 2011, and he’ll certainly won’t be dropping passes like he did last season. The fact is that Welker probably wouldn’t have even played last season if it was just five years ago. Pretty rare when you see a player with a torn ACL miss one game total.

Remember the difference between ’09 Brady and ’10 Brady, then apply that to Welker. Uncoverable.

“I have spoken to Nate,” Mankins said at the Joe Andruzzi Golf Tournament today at TPC Boston. “He seems like a great guy. I gave him a little advice, and tried to help him out the best I can in the situation we’re in.”

“Well, this time, the Patriots gave him my number,” Mankins said. “I’m more than willing to help any young guy who needs anything. Look, he’s in a tough situation right now, He doesn’t know what’s going on. He has no coaches to talk to. He’s just trying to make it in this league.”

What’s it gonna take to get Mankins back long term with the Patriots? Is there anything at all that I can do to make this happen?

BB introduces Jerod Mayo on NFLN’s Top 100 Tonight!!

May 22, 2011 by Mike Dussault

Excited to hear BB talk Mayo, and what kind of a player the Pats are willing to spend a high first round pick on.

Mike Reiss:

Bill Belichick presents Jerod Mayo on NFL Network’s “Top 100” series tonight (8 p.m.). I expect to hear Belichick talk about Mayo’s professionalism, maturity beyond his years, and passion for the game. When Mayo was looking for a place to live after getting drafted, he made sure it was within five minutes to the stadium because he knew that’s where he’d be spending most of his time.
