Why the Patriots will win the AFC

The brilliant Bs — Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. The coach and the quarterback have already combined to win three Super Bowls. Neither has lost his fastball and both are driven to get back to the top.

Offensive firepower — The Patriots led the NFL in scoring last season, averaging 32.4 points per game. Brady has an array of targets like wide receivers Wes Welker and Deion Branch, and tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. The addition of rookie running backs Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen could make the offense even more potent.

Rising talent — Linebacker Jerod Mayo, cornerback Devin McCourty, and safeties Brandon Meriweather and Patrick Chung are all young, smart, and improving. The Patriots’ defense will make more big plays.
Super Bowl edge

It’s hard to repeat, but it’s easier when you’re as good as the Packers. Rodgers and company will be too much for the Patriots.

Sporting News

Hopefully since we haven’t had free agency yet the Pats can sign some players who won’t let the Packers be too much in the Super Bowl.

November 11, 2006: The last time Tom Brady lost a REGULAR SEASON game at Gillette.

I know I’m setting myself up here for all kinds of smack about the last two playoff smackdowns that have taken place at Gillette in the playoffs, but still, Brady hasn’t lost a regular season game there in 3 plus seasons over 4 plus years. Regardless of playoff disappointments that’s still pretty impressive.

Also I hate this picture, but it’s a quality photograph if you were an unbiased observer, or a Jets fan of course.

Patriots Flashback: ‘99 vs Marino & Dolphins

Wow I can’t believe how long ago this seems now. Year 1 BBB (before BB). Young, skinny Ty Law. Drew Bledsoe seemingly set to be the QB for the next ten years. Pete Carroll before USC. Crazy to think how much this team was about to change in two years.

ESPN: Patriots Gillette Stadium Ranked #7 Toughest Venue

Seems like Gillette being ranked that high has a lot more to do with how good the Pats have been than necessarily it being an inherently tough venue to play at like Seattle. The Seahawks could be horrible and it’s still loud and often raining.

One voter commented:

Right now, the toughest place is Gillette Stadium because the Patriots have been so great. But if the Pats stink for the next five years, no way that place makes the 2016 list.

We saw enough of Braylon burning Butler in 2010 didn’t we? Especially this one in the playoffs that was a big 3rd down conversion off a broken play where the pressure actually got to Sancheese.

Sounds like Butler was working a lot in the slot at the BC session. Beating out Wilhite for nickel/dime might be his only chance to make it this year. Butler seems like the classic case of a guy with all the athletic talent in the world but he’s had trouble in his first two seasons getting down the mental part of the game. It’s easy to see how those are the kind of guys that can kill your draft because there’s no way to ever know for sure if a guy has the noodle to pick up the system.

Don’t worry, I’m not posting the video of Braylon “Dougie’ing” on him week two.

The Foxhole: Top 10 Patriots of 2010 Good stuff from Kristen, hard to argue with her order, but it’s tough not to see Jerod Mayo on there.
