Time to turn the page. These guys aren’t going to be pushovers, they’ve been long since due to take one from the Pats, and they’re flying high right now. Plus they finally have some good looking uniforms.
Expecting this to be an all out aerial war. I just hope the Pats can figure out how to defend running backs catching passes out of the back field. Some many check downs vs. the Chargers picked up first downs. That can’t continue to happen especially with Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller.
Some quick hit items of interest from around the web.
Peter King: According to the film analysts at ProFootballFocus.com, who look at every one of a team’s offensive and defensive snaps, these are the formations used by New England in the 38-24 victory over Miami (first number, of course, the linemen, second number the linebackers, third the defensive backs): 3-3-5 ( used 22 times), 4-2-5 (20 times), 4-3-4 (15 times), 3-2-6 (14 times), 2-3-6 (4 times), 5-4-2 (once), 6-3-2 (once).
Mike Reiss offensive formation round up:
2 WR/2 TE/1 RB – 42 of 71
1 WR/3 TE/1 RB – 18 of 71
3 WR/1 TE/1 RB – 10 of 71
4 WR/1 TE – 1 of 71
“I’m glad I had a knee brace on,” Brady said in his weekly appearance on Boston sports radio station WEEI. “Those are scary when you’ve been through those ones before. He got me in a good spot and I’m glad the knee brace took the brunt of the force. Why I never wore a knee brace before (his season-ending ACL injury in 2008) I have no idea and why every quarterback doesn’t wear one on their left knee I have no idea. It’s just so unprotected.”
Safety Patrick Chung left the game in the second quarter with an injury hand, and it looked like he was done. Except, Chung returned with a hard cast on his hand. Yup, he was playing. So, whatever the injury is, figure it won’t keep him out much more. But something was likely broken.
Numerous Reports on Aaron Hernandez:
Aaron Hernandez has a sprained MCL and will be out 1-2 weeks, according to a league source.
Offensive Players of the Week
New England QB Tom Brady. Think about this: A week ago this morning, Tom Brady was a walk-in Hall of Famer if he never played another snap. And in the next six days, he went out and had two of the most explosive offensive days of his career. After his 31-of-40, 423-yard, three-touchdown, no-interception performance to beat San Diego, check out his two-game numbers:
W-L Points Comp.-Att. Pct. Yards TD-Int. Rating
2-0 73 63-88 .716 940 7-1 128.0One other thing: In the last 18 regular season games, Brady has thrown 43 touchdowns with five interceptions.

NFP/Bowen: Is there a game plan to stop Brady and the Patriots?
Matt Bowen isn’t sure how to stop the Patriots offense, spefically Gronk and Hernando.
So, how do you handle this? Working against Hernandez, I would go with a FS (with cover skills) or a nickel corner. Aren’t many strong safeties that are going to match him athletically and a LB isn’t going to cut it. With Gronkowski? Have to get hands on him at the line of scrimmage or play with a Mike Backer in Cover 2 that can run—and hit down the field. But again, I’m reaching here for an answer.
The Law Firm seals the deal.
It’s hard to believe that training camp for the 2012 season opens in just six weeks. I haven’t even taken a voluntary look at any of the Super Bowl yet! Through free agency, the draft and now OTA’s the Patriots have made some positive moves that should pay dividends in the fall and winter. As […]
