Ed Reed says Flacco needs to get rid of the ball, line needs to block better | ProFootballTalk

Stop trying to make BB love you even more, Ed.

“I think Joe was kind of rattled a little bit by that defense,” Reed said.  “They had a lot of guys in the box on him.  And, I mean, they were getting to him.  I think a couple times he needed to get rid of the ball.  I don’t know how much of the play calling, he could have made audibles or anything like that, checks or whatnot, man, but it just didn’t look like he had a hold on the offense, you know, of times past.  You know, it was just kind of like they was telling him to do, throw the ball or get it here, you know, get it to certain guys.  And he can’t play like that.

Gerard Warren and Shaun Ellis could be real x-factors this weekend. Never underestimate a veteran playing for one of his final chances to go to a Super Bowl.

Coach John Harbaugh (on Bill Belichick): “I just respect Bill Belichick as a coach and as a man. I just really do. I think he’s the greatest coach in our league right now, and that’s proven. And that’s why you get so excited to have an opportunity to play against a guy [like him] as a coach. But that really … That’s for most of the guys around the league; I just respect them. What he stands for as a coach and the way he puts his team together and all that, you admire it. And then he’s always treated me well over the years. He’s always been at the top of the profession, and when somebody in that position treats a younger guy well, you certainly appreciate that. So, those are the two things I can think of. He’s a big [Johns] Hopkins lacrosse fan, so that’s cool. You like that, too. But, that’s really not that relevant this week.”

Bill Belichick’s most brilliant innovation yet: – 01.23.12 – SI Vault

Bill Belichick’s most brilliant innovation yet: – 01.23.12 – SI Vault

Great, in-depth stuff from Peter King on Gronk and Hernando.

Against Denver the Patriots were in a two-tight-end set all night. Or, rather, the two tight ends were on the field almost all night. (Hernandez missed the last series after taking a hit to the head.) In the first two series Gronkowski and Hernandez played all 12 snaps, Gronkowski mostly as a traditional tight end and Hernandez at six different positions. In fact on the five plays of the first series Hernandez lined up, in succession, at fullback; receiver tight to the formation; slot back as a sidecar to Brady; running back, weaving left out of a lone-back formation for a 43-yard gain; and flanker on the left side, taking a linebacker with him on a quick out and opening the middle for Welker, who caught a seven-yard touchdown pass. At 6’1" and 245, Hernandez is fast and quick out of cuts, a superb complement to the brutish 6’6", 265-pound Gronkowski, who blocks as well as he catches.

BB and TFB talk Ed Reed prior to the 2009 regular season match up. It’s too bad fans aren’t able to truly appreciate great safety play because we never get to see all-22 film. Most of the time Ed Reed won’t even be viewable unless he’s in the box.
