“Of course I want to come back. I would love to play with the Patriots again,” Carter told the Herald last week. “I was very blessed to work with Mr. (Robert) Kraft and his family, and Coach (Bill) Belichick and the rest of the coaching staff. The players, my teammates, they’re like a second family to me and my wife. “Of course, without a doubt, if the opportunity presents itself to finish my career as a Patriot . . .

I’d love to. The experience was indescribable.” Some teams might be willing to pay Carter more than the Pats. But that might not be the determining factor with the veteran, who is still chasing the elusive ring. There’s no question he was reborn in Foxboro under Belichick, who switched to a 4-3 defense that was more suited to Carter.

The question is, would Carter still want in, if the Pats flipped back to a 3-4?

“I never really thought that way. Where I’m at in my career, understanding Coach Belichick’s philosophy, he’s the type of guy, you just have to know your role, and know what you’ve got to do,” Carter said. “If he feels I have the potential to be a playmaker, in a 4-3 or 3-4, than so be it. That decision I’m sure will be determined in the next few weeks through free agency or after. Regardless, I love playing for the Patriots. It’s been a blast.”

One more day until the 2012 Patriots start to take shape

March 12, 2012 by Mike Dussault

If you’re sick of all the Brandon Lloyd, Mario Williams and Mike Wallace speculation you’re in luck, all our questions about what the Patriots want to do this off-season will begin to be answered in just a little over twenty-four hours.

We missed out on the Free Agency Frenzy last year due to the lock out, but this year it’s back and better than ever by starting at 4pm EST instead of the usual midnight start time. So we’ll be riding high in the blogging saddle as news starts to come in of who’s whooing who and who’s signing where.

There are a lot of questions for the Patriots besides just simple speculation of who they might be interested in. Their own internal free agents could be more important than any potential outsider they might want to bring in.

But there’s one thing I do know, by the time the draft gets here the Patriots will have at least tried to fill all of their needs so they can have as much flexibility as possible for draft weekend. Not every position will be tied up neatly with a bow, but there should be enough veteran depth acquired at all positions to provide a competitive baseline once training camp opens.

However, the dynamic of the Patriots is sure to shift in the next week, and the moves they do or don’t make will give us a little bit of a window into where Belichick wants to take the team in 2012.

Will they offer a monster contract to a wide receiver or pass rusher? Will they continue to flirt with 4-3 defensive ends? How much turnover are they prepared for?

Just one more day until the 2012 Patriots begin to take shape.

I’d be kind of careful with him,“ Fauria said. "Because he is a little up and down, he is hot and cold. And even though he was with Josh McDaniels [in Denver and St. Louis], it wasn’t like Tom Brady was throwing him the ball. … Tom is just different. He connects with people differently. I’m not saying that he wouldn’t work here, but I think it’s one of things where you kind of have to be careful with it. Wheres the value? Can you get the value out of somebody else who doesn’t have that question mark – get the same production out of them? I think the answer’s probably yes.” Lloyd has been criticized for his moody behavior with teammates. Fauria supported that assertion. “He had a great personality, he has a great smile, he’s engaging, he has a funny laugh,” Fauria said, adding, “At the same time, you just don’t know what’s going to happen when you turn the corner. You come back around and he’s going to be somebody else. … His personality isn’t consistent.”

Looks cool, but no thanks. But if there was one manbeast who could break the Madden curse it just might be Gronk.
