Marcus Forston NFL Draft Analysis – 2010 Season (by TMBDraft)

Interesting analysis of Patriots rookie free agent Marcus Forston. We’ve talked about it ad nauseum but the need for true interior rushers is one of the most under-mentioned needs for the Pats.

Forston clearly has the ability to get off the snap quickly. He should give Myron Pryor and Jonathan Fanene some competition.

I have been impressed with how articulate and poised Patriots first-round picks Chandler Jones and Dont’a Hightower have been over the last few weeks, and most recently on Friday. Bill Belichick will take his chances on certain prospects, but the first round is for the “sure thing”, and it’s easy to see why these two fall into that category from a complete package standpoint.

The Patriots are the Kingdom of Misfit Toys. When you arrive at the Super Bowl, as they did in February, with 18 undrafted players on the roster, that opens the eyes of a lot of agents looking for a landing spot for their players. They know their undrafted free agents will get a fair shot from Bill Belichick.

“Yes, absolutely,’’ he said. “You have to look at what the man has done for his organization and how many championships they’ve won. If you turn on the film and you watch Matt Light, you don’t really see guys beating that guy consistently at all. “Because of some of the other guys, you kind of overlook Matt, and people shouldn’t. You think of [Tom] Brady when you think of the Patriots. But you don’t think of Matt Light. You thought of Peyton [Manning], but you never thought of Tarik Glenn. It just is what it is, unfortunately. “But he’s one of the best in this era, definitely. I think he’s definitely a great player and the Patriots are going to miss him.’’

Patriots Rookie Eyeball Test: Chandler Jones

Really praying that 95 is not the final number for Jones. Just not feeling that one at all. Similar to Hightower we just don’t have a whole lot to work with.

Helmet choice? I guess it’s okay. Wake me up when the pads come on.

Final Grade: How many days till training camp?

Patriots Rookie Eyeball Test: Dont’a Hightower

I’m thrilled about Hightower the player don’t get me wrong, but I’m seeing a real lack of flair. While I’m happy he didn’t stick with the facemask he wore at Alabama, this one’s kind of the vanilla choice. At least Spikes has the audacity to wear a tinted visor.

There’s no chance he keeps number 45 in the regular season so we can throw that out the window, and from the looks of this pic he needs to drop a couple lbs if he wants to play LB here. So I think the jury is still out.

Final Eye Ball Test Grade: Incomplete, pending number change and no spare tire.

Hey Mike, I can’t help but see Amendola as the equivalent of a trap game for defenses right now. With adjustments being focused on LaFell, Gronk, and Minitron, it feels like Danny is one overlook away form bustin out a big game. What are you thoughts on Amendola moving forward?

I think that’s a good way to put it. As I said in an answer earlier this week, I think the bye week needs to focus on ways to get guys like Amendola and Wright (and maybe Dobson) more involved in the passing game. Teams will catch on to what the Patriots are doing with […]
