Nate Solder, predictably, looks like the starting left tackle, while Dan Connolly appears to have the edge over Dan Koppen at center. Robert Gallery was filling in for Mankins, and Ryan Wendell was in for Waters. Marcus Cannon was in for Vollmer. Now, maybe this doesn’t mean a whole lot because there were three key absences on the line, but it’s worth pointing out.

Second-year CB Ras-I Dowling, who limited to two games in 2011, was a full participant after undergoing hip surgery. I watched him closely as he lined up across from WR Brandon Lloyd, and one thing you immediately notice is his size. This amateur scout also felt he was moving well.

At Syracuse, defensive end Chandler Jones wore No. 99, but barring a change in the coming months, he’ll have 95 here in New England. His thoughts? “It really doesn’t matter at all,” he said. “I try not to get into what number I want to get. You know what? Whatever number they give me, I’m happy with. I’m happy to be a Patriot.”
