Tom Brady's Wicked Accent from Tom Brady

Wow, I’m impressed. Not really with the video itself but with TFB’s acting. Even as Patriots fans we can admit that any time Brady has “acted” in the past it’s a cringe-worthy experience. But maybe he’s gotten some acting lessons or something because I didn’t find myself cringing at all during this one. He’s not quite on Peyton’s acting level yet, but I think he definitely surpassed Eli after his awkward SNL appearance last month.

Coverage vs. Welker: Dolphins CB Benny Sapp is trying to show pressure with his initial alignment. However, this is a poor pre-snap look and it puts him in a position where he has to recover to play the seam route (with inside leverage). Either show pressure at the line (where you can get hands on the WR) or back off and get in a stance. With a single-high safety in the middle of the field, Brady is looking for pressure. This alignment from Sapp isn’t fooling anyone.

Even if Brady is one of the most accurate throwers in NFL history, his deliveries are not always on the money – purposefully so, Jenkins said, to maintain an admirable touchdown-to-interception ratio. So a receiver had better be prepared to field a low or high throw or one that requires him to leave his feet.

“He’ll throw a ball low, to protect the route, and you better be able to get it,” Jenkins said. “He’s very strict about route running and ball placement. You need to be able to make the difficult catch.”

Let’s put it this way: They were 31st last year. They can’t be worse.

And that sums up expectations for the 2012 Pats D.

I would keep an eye on Trevor Scott, who didn’t get much fanfare as a Patriots free agent signing, to have a big impact. It’s early, but he looked very comfortable in the Elephant end/outside linebacker hybrid role.

As we wrote a couple months ago, Scott is an interesting player to keep an eye on. He did a number of things for the Raiders before injuring his ACL in 2010. Now, 2 years removed from the injury he should finally be back on track. He’s one player I think will contribute early and often in 2012.
