Even as Buffalo continues to improve, New England remains the clear favorite in the AFC East. This team also has what it takes, on paper, to get back to the Super Bowl. How motivated the Patriots are and how many stops the defense can make will determine where this season winds up.

Of all the players near the bottom, the biggest concerns would be Vince Wilfork and Ziggy Hood, with Wilfork’s ridiculously high snap count (1,236 pass rushes) not helping him. Both men tend to play in the nickel packages, and it may be something that changes in the coming year.

This x10. I can’t beat the “we need interior pass rushers to help spell Vince” drum any louder. Please Pryor/Fanene or anyone bring it this year (and stay healthy).

My hometown team… It’s getting a little misty here in the Ministry of PatsPropaganda.

I think they need to be able to throw the ball down the field. Not just short, intermediate routes. I think they’re going to have to do a better job of taking some shots down the field.

Rodney Harrison Believes Peyton Manning Will Not Lead Denver Broncos to Super Bowl, Thinks Patriots Can Repeat as AFC Champions – New England Patriots – NESN.com

Sensing a theme today? Do the Pats need to stretch the field more? Is that why they lost those four games last year?

No question you want to attack all levels of a defense, but there’s no question the Patriots will be hard to stop no matter how well they throw the ball deep.

Whether he’s the proverbial deep threat or not, I can promise you Brandon Lloyd will provide a new challenge for opposing defenses. You might not need to put help over the top of him, but you better get help on him.

I know Bill Belichick. He’s a built a young team, an aggressive team, a smart team, a team with depth and a team with a great quarterback. So they’re going to be fine. They’re going to be right back in the hunt this year.

The Jets play in a division without an explosive offense. Even New England isn’t explosive. They use a short, intermediate-style passing game. The Jets’ ball-control offense will shorten games and limit the amount of points and yards their defense allows.

Rob Ryan vs. Rex Ryan: Who will lead better defense in 2012? – NFL.com

I guess you don’t need an explosive offense to dominate then.

Wired for Sound: Scott Chandler Say hello to the newest Patriot and a guy I’ve wanted ever since he started tearing the Patriots up. Chandler is an upgrade on Hooman, but he’s also a good compliment to Gronk that gives the Patriots another big target for opponents to content with.
