Practice rundown #3 – Extra Points – Boston.com

Practice rundown #3 – Extra Points – Boston.com

Couple of my favorite nuggets:

While we’re a long way from having a definitive answer on how much first round-pick Chandler Jones will contribute as a rookie, he got off to a very good start in the first padded practice. Not only was he a perfect 3-0 in the one-on-one drill, Jones did a nice job being physical and active during 11-on-11s. It wasn’t perfect – Jones got turned around once and gave up leverage a few times – but an impressive day.

WLB Jerod Mayo has been the best defensive player through three days as he continues to grow into the playmaking role the Patriots have carved out for him.

Pats are the first team talked about so even if you just have five minutes it’s an easy listen.

Stevan Ridley was taking reps with the first-team offense on Saturday and looked good while running through contact during 11-on-11 drills. The second-year running back out of LSU made a couple of good runs during the non-contact drills, but found holes and absorbed contact well during the full-contact drills.

Camp Observations: Day 3 – New England Patriots Blog – ESPN Boston

Great stuff throughout this article. It was the first day of full pads, thus some interesting things to observe. Let’s point out the good and bad pass rusher quote:

The good among the defense: Trevor Scott, who flashed quickness and an arsenal of pass-rush moves; Brandon Deaderick and Ron Brace, who both showed some heavy hands on interior rushes; and Jonathan Fanene, whose ability to work effectively in tight spaces was evident. Those who left something to be desired on defense: rookie draft choice Jake Bequette, who appeared indecisive in his rush; and Marcus Forston, who looks like a linear rusher but was unable to generate much push up front.

Being a good football player isn’t necessarily about how many good plays you make but how many bad plays you don’t make,” he explained. “Anybody can make good plays. You wouldn’t be in this league if you weren’t capable of making good plays. But it’s a matter of not making bad plays. You have to make the bad plays and then learn from them, and I’ve made plenty of those over the course of my career. You make them, you learn from them and you try not to repeat them.

Good news on Justin Francis

July 28, 2012 by Mike Dussault

Sounds like rookie DE Justin Francis, who was carted off, might have dodged a serious injury. Was cramping in practice, source says.

Guess who hasn’t looked so great this preseason, bruh… I really wonder if the lack of a veteran leader like Alge Crumpler is going to retard Gronk’s growth. Seems like he’s had more than his share of mental errors this preseason, despite reports that he was uncoverable early in camp. Here’s some mention of his […]
