Belichick on Brandon Bolden:

“It seems like he’s done a decent job in the areas we’ve asked him to work in, special teams,” Belichick said. “He can catch the ball, has some skill in the passing game, and he had some production in the running game in college. We’ve only seen that in drills, we haven’t seen that in live competition yet, but based on college, it looked like he could run the ball. Pretty smart guy who can catch, play in the kicking game.”

Wow, some really interesting numbers in here, that aren’t necessarily all that positive for TFB which of course is rare. He was just .4 percent better than Mark Sanchez. Crazy huh?

Brady completely missed his mark – short, long or wide – on more than 17 percent of his passes last season, according to numbers compiled by Stats, Inc.


Here’s the only explanation I can come up with, an incompletion is better than an interception, right? I don’t think there’s any question that when a play is not there Brady will not try to force the pass.

It’s also worth pointing out, as the article does, how much the Pats didn’t have much success on passes more than 20 yards down the field last year either.

Put it all together and it’s still hard to see how it exactly comes out this way, but it’s something to monitor this year. However it does make me think that he was absolutely surgical in the middle of the field. Wish we could see how many, if any, of those passes were bad.

Good recap of who the ESPN Boston crew thinks are up and down so far in practice. One of my old favorites that hasn’t gotten much love here lately is Dane Fletcher, who they had as an “up”.

Fletcher is one of three players who have appeared on the first team of the Patriots’ core four special-teams units. A prominent special-teams role can be enough to earn a player a spot on a team by itself, but Fletcher has shown up as a linebacker, too. He displayed both power and shiftiness in a blitz pickup drill on Sunday, held down run fits during live 11-on-11 action, and hasn’t shied from contact. The Patriots have developed some depth in the linebacking core, but 2011 starter Brandon Spikes remains extremely limited in practice. That has opened the door for Fletcher to receive increased reps, and he’s answered the bell.
