At one point during Sunday’s practice, the Jets ran the ball 22 straight times. Ryan called that a “tremendous” development, one that he hadn’t planned. Perhaps that illustrates, as well as anything could (especially in July), that the Jets will be committed to a ground-and-pound philosophy in Sparano’s first year as offensive coordinator.

With the Pats spending more time on a nickel front style defense it should certainly be interesting to see what they do against the Jets with the return of the ground and pound.

Belichick might be 60, but there’s a strong feeling around the league that he’s not close to being done, and could well outlast Brady in New England. When asked about his future, Belichick’s stock response privately has been, I’m told, “What else am I going to do?” Here’s the thing – he’s comfortable. He went to prep school and college in the region, lives in the seaside town of Hingham, and his beloved Nantucket is a short drive/boat ride away. He’s got all the power a coach could want organizationally, and now his son is working for him. Maybe he reverses course down the line, but at this point my sense is he’s staying in Foxborough for quite a while to come.

Gronk has “Hard Work” on his chin band aid. Better than “Zubaz 4 Life” I guess…

It’s become clear that the Patriots are going to lean on the screen game more this season than they have the last few years. They have run them several times in practice to this point in camp, and the offense was spotted working on them at the end of practice. They were able to successful execute the screen on a handful of occasions throughout practice, but one screen pass for Shane Vereen from Ryan Mallett was blown up by the defense.

Tweets of note from Tuesday’s Patriots training camp

July 31, 2012 by Mike Dussault

LB Brandon Spikes had been limited through the first four practices. Defense has a different feel when he’s in there. More of an edge.

— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) July 31, 2012

In 1 on 1s, nice competition between Chandler Jones and Nate Solder. Jones gets the best of Solder on one snap. Jones showing up in drills.

— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) July 31, 2012

Dowling was best CB in one on ones. Broke up 2 straight on Lloyd in end zone. Lloyd won next matchup, though.

— Jeff Howe (@jeffphowe) July 31, 2012

Brandon Deaderick also shows good explosiveness in 1 on 1 vs. interior o-linemen.
