Belichick & Light’s Prank (by PatsPropaganda)

Great story from BB as we make the long wait that comes before the in-stadium season ticket holder practice.

Are the Jets bickering already? – AFC East Blog – ESPN

Cornerback Antonio Cromartie says he’s the second best receiver on the Jets. Understandably, some New York receivers weren’t happy about it. “I think it’s a slight, I’m not going to lie,” Jets receiver Chaz Schilens told New York reporters. “I just wouldn’t say it, it’s not something I would say but I’m not him I guess.“

A season after getting gouged by tight ends across the league, Gang Green revamped their safety group by adding LaRon Landry and Yeremiah Bell with an eye on stopping Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. “They’re good tight ends,” Bell told me after practice today. “You don’t want to take any credit away from those guys. But we’re good safeties. They’re just people. We can go out there and we can cover those guys. We can do what needs to be done. I don’t think it’s a mismatch either way.” Landry, who hasn’t finished each of the past two seasons due to nagging Achilles injuries, remains undaunted by Gronk Nation. “They got a lot of beasts in the league,” Landry told me. “He’s not the only tight end that’s great in the league. I went up against a lot of great guys. I’m not discrediting Gronkowski. He’s a great tight end… I’m looking forward to the challenge… if they want me to go in the box and cover him, if they want me to go in the box and play as a linebacker, if they want me to go deep man-to-man. Whatever. I’ll do it all.”

New Jets safeties LaRon Landry and Yeremiah Bell believe they can stop Patriots tight ends | New York Daily News

I look forward to watching these match-ups, but the real issue for the Jets will be the trickle down effect of having to cover Brandon Lloyd. And there’s also this:

Per PFF: Yeremiah Bell in coverage vs. Gronk in 2011: 4 of 5 passes completed for 49 yards.

Pats Practice 2012 (by didan478)

Best part of this video? When the coach has to show Sergio where to line up.

Guard Donald Thomas put together a strong start to camp, which was noted in this space over the weekend, and the coaches seemed to reward him by having him line up in Logan Mankins’ left guard spot with the club’s top blockers. Thomas is winning the majority of his 1-on-1 battles in drills, and has appeared to be more consistent than some of his competition for a roster spot, such as veteran Robert Gallery.

Thomas is someone we haven’t talked about yet. Here’s his bio from NFL.com. If there’s one thing we could use it’s a strong young guard. Let’s see how long he sticks with the 1’s.

Five questions from Patriots camp – NFL – CBSSports.com News, Rumors, Scores, Stats, Fantasy

Kirwan nails the question marks around the team, but below is an interesting nugget about Mallet. One of the tough things about all the camp reports is that often a lot of them conflict. I’ve seen a few observations saying Mallet is slow in his reads and looks like he’s thinking too much. Well, below is what Kirwan saw for what it’s worth…

Mallett was impressive in the padded practice I watched. I can confirm that Mallett didn’t throw a bad pass in practice and spread the ball around with exceptional accuracy. The defensive players warned me before practice that Mallett was starting to stick the ball into tight spots with great velocity, accuracy and he understood where to go with the ball. Hoyer doesn’t have the same natural physical gifts that Mallett has but he can run this team if need be. It is safe to say the Patriots are better off at quarterback than most teams in the NFL.

Practice rundown #5 – Extra Points – Boston.com

Good observations as always. Hard not to be excited about Ron Brace and Jermaine Cunningham finally stepping up. Just for fun let’s imagine a defense of:

Cunningham-Brace-Wilfork-Jones

Hightower-Spikes-Mayo

McCourty-Chung-Gregory-Dowling

That’s 5 1st-rounders and 5 2nd-rounders (and poor free agent Steve Gregory) all hand picked by Belichick, you know, the guy who can’t draft. Might be a stretch to see both Cunningham and Brace in there as starters but still, any kind of help from them this year changes the conversation a bit more about the Pats make up. Not so much free agents and castoffs anymore, eh?

THUMBS UP The Patriots seemed to be rewarding three players for their play so far in camp as Donald Thomas received most of the snaps at left guard, Sterling Moore took some of the nickel cornerback reps from Ras-I Dowling and Ron Brace was elevated from the third team. Good to see strong play rewarded. All of the players – especially Thomas and Brace – have earned a longer look to this point.

THUMBS DOWN In our subjective opinion, center Dan Koppen has lost his last five one-on-one matchups, some very lopsided. His struggles are becoming predictable and alarming. Koppen hasn’t been able to match the strength of the Patriots’ defensive tackles, and his trademark feet don’t seem to be as quick. Brandon Deaderick easily went through Koppen in one-on-ones. Would be nice to see Dan Connolly get more reps in the starting spot he earned last season.

Not entirely surprised about Koppen, and in reality he has to make this team as the starting center or not at all, because that’s the only thing he can do.
