Tweets of note from Monday’s Patriots practice

August 6, 2012 by Mike Dussault

Rookies run in a straight line, get hosed by Wilfork, then have to recover a fumble. First-round pick Chandler Jones led the way.

— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) August 6, 2012

Sergio Brown and Ras-I Dowling with very nice PBUs on passes from Brady to Edelman and Lloyd, respectively.

— Christopher Price (@capeleaguer) August 6, 2012

We also saw Bobby Carpenter get a lot of time with No. 1 defense.

Dont’a Hightower also gets a lot of reps in the middle. Another solid performance.

Caserio said Justin Francis played 100 mph at Rutgers. The undrafted DL, who is good friends w/Steve Belichick, has a shot to make the team.

CB Ras-I Dowling is starting to stack success. Had a nice break on the ball to break up a pass. That followed an interception on Sunday.

First the Saints have DO YOUR JOB shirts, now the Jets are having fights in practice? What’s next, the Bills acting like they have acting like they have a stranglehold on the division? Oh right, too late…

cbssports:

New York let off some summer steam as about 20 Jets players brawled today.

Video of the incident.

Justin Francis continues to impress. He dusted Waldron with the push-pull-rip move. Francis, who has shown end/tackle versatility, is going to be hard to keep off the team if he stays healthy.

When the defense went against the offense running plays off scout cards the front four consisted of Ninkovich, Love, Wilfork and Jones. They were backed up by the SEC D of Mayo, Spikes and Hightower. The first guys off the sideline to sub in were Deaderick at defensive tackle, Cunningham at end and Tavon Wilson swapping in for Steve Gregory at free safety.

The team worked on a somewhat stouter version of the 4-3 front that saw Brandon Deaderick taking reps at the left defensive end spot that has primarily belonged to Rob Ninkovich to open the summer. The rest of the line consisted of Love, Wilfork and Chandler Jones. The front was working to the strength of the offense, so Jones and Deaderick actually saw reps at both end spots.

While that isn’t ideal for Patriots fans it also presents an intriguing underdog situation for Bill Belichick and the Patriots, and I’m surprisingly confident that the Patriots will end […]
