The Patriots are now like a college football powerhouse. If they go 13-3, fans rend their garments about the three losses, and anything less than a Super Bowl results in weeks of Boston-area navel-gazing. As usual, they are odds-on favorites to earn home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. As usual, everyone south or west of Hartford, Conn., is rooting against them. And as usual, nothing of real consequence will happen to the Patriots until sometime in January.

The players really in the hunt for the final spots are receivers Julian Edelman and Jeremy Ebert, guard Donald Thomas, centers Dan Koppen and Nick McDonald, left tackle Darrion Weems, ends Jermaine Cunningham and Trevor Scott, end/tackle Justin Francis, linebackers Niko Koutouvides and Jeff Tarpinian, and defensive backs Nate Ebner, Marquice Cole, and Alfonzo Dennard.

Is Marcus Cannon Reliable Backup to Sebastian Vollmer for New England Patriots? | Bleacher Report

Is Marcus Cannon Reliable Backup to Sebastian Vollmer for New England Patriots? | Bleacher Report

This is the only real question I think that bears real discussion at this point for the offensive line. Even if Waters retires a line of Solder-Mankins-Koppen-Connolly-Vollmer will be fine. But if Vollmer gets hurt again you have to wonder if Marcus Cannon is ready for a full time role. Nice breakdown by Frenz.

One-on-One With Tom Brady

One-on-One With Tom Brady

Really nice article about a kid Brady mentored at Michigan. Nice to see he’s been giving back since he was still in college.

“On one of the last days [Tom Brady] mentored me, he gave me the game ball from the Rice [University] game that season. I brought it with me to the spring training in hopes that he’d sign it this time around,” he says. “There were thousands of fans lined up, and a woman stopped me when I tried to walk towards Tom, who was talking to other football players’ wives and kids. I explained that I knew him and that I was from Ann Arbor. He turned around and immediately recognized me. We talked for a while, and he autographed the ball for me.”

Why Your Team Sucks 2012: New England Patriots

I was looking forward to this and of course they delivered. It’s hard to really argue with any of it, and Hoodie knows I deal with plenty of unnecessarily apoplectic Patriots fans.

Perhaps most interesting to me in all of this is that some dude wrote a book about Spygate! You can tell by the cover it must be some really reliable journalism.

I kind of tempted to try and get an interview with this guy. $20 seems a little excessive, and I refuse to throw any money at anything still trying to throw gas on the Spygate controversy.

I guess I’d just like to know how he rationalizes that the Patriots have still had the best record in the NFL since September 2007? Are we still cheating?
