The Best of PatsPropaganda This Week

September 22, 2012 by Mike Dussault

Since posts seem to fly by pretty quickly here on the blog we put together a post every Saturday of our favorite and most interesting Pats stuff from the past week. Here’s a Cardinals-light edition:

Mike D. has his 5 keys to beating the Ravens.

Strategy and statistical notes from the AFCCG.

Ryan Muth breaks down the Pats offensive line struggles vs. the Cardinals.

Grantland has a look into the phenomenon known as GRONK.

Greg Bedard tells Dennis and Callahan the Patriots offense is in transition.

Bedard’s game breakdowns are always a must read too.

Breaking down PFF’s Patriots stats vs. the Cardinals.

Is it plausible the Pats are saving Welker?

PatsProp also did some reorganizing this week:

There aren’t many people that I think have done more for the NFL or done more for football than Steve has. He was a great friend. I’d say my favorite memories of Steve are going to owners’ meetings and just sitting around talking. Steve was a great storyteller, both on film and in person. He had a great appreciation for the game, the history of the game, the people and the past really, as well as the present. But he had a great memory, great experiences in the past. I just loved to talk to him, just talking about football. He was really special. I think it’s hard these days to find somebody like Steve that was never about him, it was always about the game, it was about the entertainment. All the things he did, I don’t think he ever made anybody look bad. That wasn’t the point, even though we all had some bad moments, we had fumbles and whatever but you were sort of able to laugh at yourself the way he presented it. It seemed like every time he did something, you walked out of there with either a smile on your face or a great appreciation for what he showed and his ability to show a close, unique look at the game until so many of us never saw until he presented it, or the way he presented it. I’ll miss Steve, he’s really special. The job he’s done for NFL Films, the recognition he’s gotten he certainly deserves; a really special guy.

Yes, Baltimore is running more no-huddle, but theirs is more to simply block personnel substitution by the defense, and less about creating the physical and mental stress you see from the Patriots. There are tempo changes in the Ravens’ version, but much less so than what you’ve seen here. The Ravens’ no-huddle has been relatively effective, but not a dramatic game changer.

Almost every significant play the Panthers had on offense was the result of Newton and the Panthers taking advantage of the Patriots’ aggressiveness. The 42-yard pass to Steve Smith in the first quarter? The Patriots rushed six defenders. The 9-yard touchdown pass to Brandon LaFell? Also on a blitz, with the throw landing in the […]
