Gronk redeemed himself with this TD and the onside kick recovery, but there are going to be some calling him out this week for the Summer of Gronk. He did play with a hip injury. I’ll cut him some slack here.

It was certainly ugly on both sides of the ball for a good chunk of it but both sides turned it around. Turnovers from the defense and a dominant run game that hasn’t been seen since the days of Corey Dillon led the way.

If the Patriots sit in zones all day, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will find the holes. What the Patriots need to do is junk their conservative coverages and get physical at the line of scrimmage with the Bills. The longer Fitzpatrick has to hold onto the ball, the more it plays into the Patriots’ hands. The rush will be able to affect Fitzpatrick, and he’ll start to throw the ball into bad spots. The Bills want Fitzpatrick to get rid of the ball as quickly as possible to keep him from making mistakes. Don’t give him easy, quick reads at the snap. And furthermore, the linebackers need to tee off on any crossing patterns. Don’t let them feel comfortable.

A very smart general manager once told me that he wished his team played the Patriots early in the season, then he’d know exactly where his team’s holes were because no one is better at targeting weaknesses than Bill Belichick. We all know the Panthers’ front seven is terrific, and that their secondary has issues. […]
