Bill Belichick piece well done, but there’s more to story – Sports – The Boston Globe
Always a must-read for Sundays, with a great breakdown of what was left out of Cleveland ‘95.
Also this nugget:
Wouldn’t be surprised to see the Patriots play more 3-4 on defense, which they’ve done at times this season, against Denver. The Patriots know center Dan Koppen’s limitations better than the Broncos. Koppen now struggles in one-on-one situations, so the more the Broncos have to help him, the more things could open up for other pass rushers.
Could this be today’s new defensive twist that they haven’t shown yet? You have to think as soon as BB saw he had Manning in week five he knew he had to hold something back to spring on Manning.
In the ’06 AFCCG he suddenly started non-starter Eric Alexander at MLB, and in ’10 he had Kyle Arrington playing a pass rushing defensive end. There will be some new tweaks today for sure on defense, very curious to see what they are.
In his postgame speech to players after the 52-28 win over the Bills, Bill Belichick singled out cornerback Devin McCourty and told him that while he might not have much support from those outside of the locker room (a reference to the media, it would seem), he’d go with him any day.

Defensive snapshot via playing time – New England Patriots Blog – ESPN Boston
Really great breakdown of who we’ve seen the most of on defense broken down by postion. With Gregory out today someone’s going to see a rise in snaps. Our best guess, it’s Sterling Moore primarily, possibly at safety, with Ras-I getting back into the action on the outside.
It’s my understanding that Gronkowski has been dealing with significant pain these last two weeks. He’s listed on the injury report with a hip ailment, and we know of the back problems from his college days at Arizona. He had his snaps scaled back last week in the win over Buffalo (he had an uncharacteristic lost fumble in that game), and was limited throughout this past week in practice. Gronkowski is as tough as they come, but this is something I’ll be watching closely.
Every year there’s one prospect who rises above the rest and becomes the favorite of the majority of Patriots nation and reporters as the best fit for the Pats for their first selection in the draft. This year the consensus guy is Cal Defensive End Cameron Jordan. In the minds of those who follow Bill […]
