Rams’ A-gap pressure and illusion – The Patriots interior offensive linemen are going to have to come up big in identifying when the Rams are blitzing or not because they will most certainly see various looks of interior pressure. The Rams have had some success using A-gap linebacker pressure (“Cross-Dogs”) and showing the illusion of it, both of which are very difficult to deal with. Both create one on one matchups for the defensive ends on the outsides because of the interior offensive linemen occupied with protecting their quarterback up the middle.
Patriots need to take a few steps to get back on track – Sports – The Boston Globe
Great pregame read, or save it for after the game, as Bedard breaks down three things the Pats need to do to regroup on defense.
Here’s a quick preview of them, with some of my comments, we’re very much on the same page and I love when that happens:
1. Get Gronk/Hernando healthy – not sure if either will be 100% this year, but the bye week comes at a good time. Hopefully Hernando’s ankle doesn’t linger.
2. Rush the passer better – Bedard even gives a shout out to PatsProp mascot Myron Pryor. I like that he mentioned Dont’a Hightower too, he could be the creative answer with more blitzes.
3. Get by in the secondary – that’s about all they can do. Get healthy and hope things gel, but it’s clear they still need more talent on the back end next off-season.
I’m always an optimist because I do think that teams can improve over the course of the season, and I’m not especially interested in spending the regular season evaluating the off-season moves. There are enough players here to get the job done, they just have to come together.
When Fitzy met Mr. Kraft! Amazing!!
Special thanks to @UKPatriots for throwing a whale of a Patsbash tonight in London. Got to meet some great fans, and take a lot of photos with dudes, my favorite of which happened to be with Mr. Kraft. The best owner in sports is every bit the rockstar you’d think he is, and then some. The perfect capper to a bloody brilliant day of talking Pats and taking pints in London. And we still have a big game to play.
More to come. Stay tuned. Go Pats! And a jolly ol’ GFY!
Video: Rob Gronkowski spikes the mike in London 2012
Go to about 1:23 for the mike spike!
It was Gronkowski who stole the show. While answering a question about the Rams’ defense, the crowd erupted in a “Spike the mike!” chant that caused him to stop talking, wind up and hammer the microphone into the stage, causing a huge boom on the speakers in the square. Belichick and his teammates all laughed, particularly Welker, who buckled over.
