Patriots offensive groupings for first Texans game

Patriots offensive groupings for first Texans game

The Patriots were fairly balanced in this one despite not having Gronk. He’ll replace Hoomanwanui in the 12 personnel and likely the Pats will play that the majority of the time in the rematch.

  • 2 WR/2 TE/1 RB – 37 of 73
  • 3 WR/1 TE/1 RB – 26 of 73
  • 1 WR/3 TE/1 RB – 9 of 73
  • 2 WR/1 TE/2 RB – 1 of 73

Patriots Offensive Drives vs. Texans.

That stretch of three straight three-and-outs and a six-and-out is a little concerning.

Which Patriots runningback will get the ball most against the Texans?

January 6, 2013 by Mike Dussault

Here are the snaps from last game:

  • RB Stevan Ridley – 31 of 73
  • RB Shane Vereen – 24 of 73
  • RB Danny Woodhead – 16 of 73

But Woodhead has been surging and reliable. And don’t forget about Brandon Bolden. It will be interesting to see who they trust when it’s all on the line.

The Patriots were in their base defense on 47 of 70 snaps on Dec. 10, a result of the Texans playing mostly with multiple tight ends. That is likely to be the case again next Sunday, as tight end Garrett Graham, who didn’t play Dec. 10 because of a concussion, is healthy again to give the Texans three options at the position (Graham, Owen Daniels and James Casey). That means it could be a Brandon Spikes-type game for the Patriots, as the hard-hitting middle linebacker sparks the base D.

The Texans sent more than four rushers at Brady on 44.2 percent of his dropbacks. That’s the second-highest rate on the season and the most since the 51.2 percent the Rams threw at Brady in London (not coincidentally, a 45-7 Patriots win). The Patriots were even more aggressive, bringing extra pressure against Schaub on 52.5 percent of his throws. That’s the most since at least the start of the 2010 season.

It will be interesting to see if both teams are as aggressive this time. I sure hope the Patriots are.

On the Gregory interception, Belichick points out a strong one-on-one rush by rookie defensive end Chandler Jones which also tightens the pocket. “Chandler played probably his best game of the year,” Belichick says, highlighting how Jones used a power rush on rookie left tackle Jonathan Martin before coming back inside.

Really good sign that Chandler played so well last weekend, there were some concerns that he just wasn’t the same player he had been before missing time with his injury.

Welker Video

Welker Video Hearing Welker was back and seeing pictures of him was one thing, but seeing him run on video is something entirely different. I am shocked at how well he is moving here. The legend of white Wes continues to grow..
