I don’t think the key is the running game. The Patriots have to figure out a way to be more explosive in the pass game to setup the run. Healthy Gronk and Hernandez certainly help – if they ever stay healthy. But I think the Patriots have to look hard at Welker and their offense. What you saw before Hernandez got hurt against the Cardinals – Lloyd, Hernandez, Gronkowski and Edelman – makes them much more explosive all over the field. They need upgrades to Lloyd, and if Edelman can’t stay healthy, someone quick and athletic after the catch in that spot. Do you give up the safety of having Welker to go for broke – not in the regular season, but in the post season – by changing the offense and personnel? I think those are the big decisions looming over this team and Belichick.

Rob Gronkowski: I didn’t come back too soon

“The doctors cleared me,” Gronkowski said. “As a player, you want to be out there for every game. Definitely don’t believe I came back too early. It’s just a freak accident. It’s very frustrating when that happens, too. It’s just a thing I can’t really do anything about.” Gronkowski mentioned how frustrating the injury was. “It’s just frustrating, the way I landed on it and how it broke,” Gronkowski said. “It’s just a freak thing how the first one broke, how the second one broke. The only thing it does is frustrate you, but now it’s just a time where I’ve got to rehab it, take my time now, get 100 percent so it’s ready to go for next season.”

It’s just been a grind, because I’m not the kind of guy who sits back and takes time off,” Fletcher said. “I’ve put in all the positive energy I could. I think the proof will be in the pudding when next year arises and people and all the fans will see how much time I’ve spent in the offseason preparing for this year. I’m putting everything I have in to it, which I feel I owe to myself, my family and Patriots fans.

How Could the New England Patriots Utilize Armond Armstead? | Bleacher Report

Good stuff from Frenz on my favorite topic…

In 2010 (Wright’s last year, with just 320 defensive snaps), the Patriots leaned on 543 snaps from defensive tackle Gerard Warren, along with a rotation of Ron Brace (285 snaps), Brandon Deaderick (258) and Myron Pryor (242).

In 2011, Vince Wilfork played 1,173 snaps and Kyle Love played 696 snaps. Shaun Ellis was largely ineffective in 421 snaps, and Deaderick saw his snap total rise to 383. Gerard Warren (371) continued to contribute, as well. Albert Haynesworth (134) was released after eight games.

In 2012, Wilfork (1,041) and Love (591) once again carried a significant load. The Patriots utilized defensive end Jermaine Cunningham (487) as an interior pass-rusher in some nickel packages. Deaderick (467) once again saw his snap total increase. Defensive ends Justin Francis (301) and Trevor Scott (289) were the only other defensive linemen to carry a significant workload in 2012.

Michael Crabtree fan of ‘legend’ Wes Welker | Boston Herald

“I actually got into it with Wes Welker when I first went to college,” the San Francisco 49ers receiver said yesterday. “He said something about me playing in the summer. We were doing one-on-ones with some guys that were in the NFL that used to go to Tech. He was holding me, and I was fresh out of high school, had an attitude, and I was cussing him out to get off of me. He got in my face like I was going to back down.” Naturally, that wasn’t the case. “That was one of those things I was letting him know I’m about to come in there and do better than what he did,” Crabtree said. “It was just fun and games. That’s my dude, though.”

At the time of the deal, the thought was that the Patriots took a short-term hit dealing Seymour but gained more in the long-term. That holds true four years later, although one thing I didn’t realize at the time of the trade was how things were brewing behind the scenes with Seymour and the Patriots. […]
