29. Patriots (12-4) — Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State How many times can the Patriots draft a defensive back in the late first round/early second round? As many times as it takes for them to actually have a good secondary. Even if Talib is re-signed, which is obviously a big question mark, the Pats still have a ways to go when it comes to building a stable defensive backfield.

The infancy of the dynasty is always fun to look back upon. What a long strange 19 years it’s been…

patriots – Free agent snapshot: Desmond Bryant – WEEI | Christopher Price

One of my favorite FAs…

He’s a relatively young, smart guy who is versatile – his size would allow him to fill multiple spots in New England’s defensive front. This is a guy who filled in for Richard Seymour, who was able to play multiple spots along New England’s defensive front in his eight seasons with the Patriots. While you’re not going to be getting a 27-year-old Seymour, you might not be too far off with someone like Bryant. While he is expected to draw some interest around the league, he isn’t necessarily on everyone’s radar screen. And the Patriots should also be able to offer him a relatively cap-friendly contract that’s comparable to Oakland, but far better working conditions.

Don’t you think it’s a little un-Patriotlike to let Lloyd and Welker walk? Assuming they resign Edelman, get someone in FA and/or the draft, that still seems like a lot of eggs in a few baskets.

I agree, I think there’s an argument to be made for Lloyd sticking around, even for a slightly-high $3 million. While not great, Lloyd was pretty good and did show some chemistry with Brady. He had some acrobatic catches, and should develop even more of a rhythm with Brady with another offseason of work.

I’d like to see them add at least a couple veterans and a rookie at wide receiver. Regardless of what happens with Welker.

This means the club brings back its entire starting offensive line, and in an area where five players seeing the same picture is critical, that is an ideal scenario. Sometimes a team’s best work in free agency is retaining its own, and that’s what this offseason has mostly been defined by for the Patriots. Analysis: […]
