If we were to spin all this forward, the same Ty Warren-type story could be told with linebacker Jerod Mayo, who would have been a top free agent had he not signed a contract extension during the 2011 regular season. Why isn’t Mayo mentioned more when it comes to key Patriots re-signings this offseason? The answer: Because we often only judge what’s in front of us and sometimes miss the overall context of what goes in to building a team.

This means the club brings back its entire starting offensive line, and in an area where five players seeing the same picture is critical, that is an ideal scenario. Great news today as the Pats have agreed to a reported four-year deal with Sebastian Vollmer. I was on board with bringing Vollmer back since the start of the offseason and it brings the final tally on the big three free agents to two (Vollmer/Talib) out of three (Welker).

Solid move that ensures Brady will get top-of-the-line protection this season and going forward, especially on the edges. Though it makes you wonder what this means for the free agent defensive ends like Freeney and Abraham.
