Yeah, you wanted action in the first round. But the truth is, most drafts don’t have 32 players with first-round grades. And this one was worse than most. I mean, six offensive linemen in the first 11 selections? And Florida State’s E.J. Manuel, who is a bit of a project, the only quarterback taken, with the 16th pick by the Bills? That just tells you what kind of stinker the first round was. So why would you take a player in the first round that is, at best, worth a second-round pick? It doesn’t matter where you pick. It matters if you get good players. Let’s see if the Patriots get good players. There are definitely talented players left that can help the Patriots

Do you think the Pats will use their two second rounders for Woods and Hunter?

April 26, 2013 by Mike Dussault

I think they might have to trade up to get them, which I wouldn’t rule out. Woods could very well be the next receiver off the board.

Every Patriots fan/analyst seems to focus on receivers and corners but I have a good feeling the Patriots’ first pick today will be Johnathan Hankins from Ohio State. Probably in a trade up in the 43-47 range from 52.

I’m all for that, I actually have him in my new mock draft that I just did at Bleacher Report earlier this morning. I liked Datone Jones’ pass rush a little better, but Hankins has good versatility and would bring a lot to the table inside and at defensive end. I think he’s effectively a Brandon Deaderick upgrade.

Q: Did you see Joe Andruzzi’s moment up on stage? NC: I did, yeah. It was neat. We were sitting in there and I think someone asked ‘Are they booing him?’ because we have the feed from our people there. That was a neat moment. I don’t think something like that has happened in the history of the draft. Joe’s a great ambassador for this organization, for this city, in what he’s done. He’s made endless contributions, forget on the football field, but just in terms of his contributions to the organization. I think this was another example of that, with the jersey and the message. I think everybody is still wary and cognizant of what had happened even in light of some of the recent developments over the last few days about the potential impact on New York. It’s a very sensitive sort of subject. Joe’s a great human being. He’s a great ambassador for our program and it was really a cool moment.

Fifteen Thoughts on the First Round of the 2013 NFL Draft | NEPatriotsDraft.com – 2013 NFL Draft

Fifteen Thoughts on the First Round of the 2013 NFL Draft | NEPatriotsDraft.com – 2013 NFL Draft

Mike Loyko’s day two picks:

52) Quinton Patton, WR, Louisiana Tech – The Patriots may try to trade back up to pick up a guy like Robert Woods or Justin Hunter at the top of the round. If they stay where they are I think Patton is the logical choice, followed by Markus Wheaton. Other possibilities are Da’Rick Rogers, Terrance Williams and Stedman Bailey.

59) Jesse Williams, DT, Alabama – I was recently told the Patriots still want a “plugger” in the middle of their defensive line. At this point in the draft two names would be in play Kawann Short and Williams.

83) Tyrann Mathieu, CB, LSU – Picking up extra picks allows the Patriots to take some chances. The Honey Badger is a much needed play-maker in the secondary. I have heard there is real interest here.

89) Aaron Dobson, WR, Marshall – Whether it’s Dobson or someone else the Patriots have the ability to double-dip at a position of major need. Getting Patton and Dobson will add youth and explosiveness to the receiver corps.

Top 6 Plays the Brady/Belichick Pats would like to have back. 1. Tyree Helmet catch (vs. Giants SB42). 2. Welker drop (vs. Giants SB46) 3. Screen play where OPI called against Troy Brown before halftime (vs. Colts 2006 AFCC) 4. Ridley fumble (vs. Ravens 2012 AFCC) 5. Brady interception to Champ Bailey (vs. Denver 2005 Divisional) 6. Fake punt (vs. Jets 2010 AFC Divisional). How many more rings would the Pats have if these outcomes are a little different?

Nice list (and please keep questions/comments like this coming!!). Some commentary on each of these.. 1. No question. Felt like the magic that the Pats had in their SB-winning years suddenly was with the Giants. 2. Big play, but this was 2nd-and-11. No question a touchdown there puts the game away, but if they’re held […]
