10) New England Patriots
Key signees: Cory Grissom, DT, South Florida; Zach Sudfeld, TE, Nevada; Matt Stankiewitch, C, Penn State. Grissom was a top-notch high school wrestler, and wrestlers often make for good defensive linemen. The three-year starting nose tackle can be a good player against the run. Sudfeld moves well for a big guy. He’s the type of player New England routinely molds into a contributor. The same goes for Stankiewitch, a smart overachiever who looks like a good developmental project.

Patriots most affected by change – New England Patriots Blog – ESPN Boston

Good read from Reiss on the guys most affected by the draft picks…

Defensive end Jermaine Cunningham. The 2010 second-round pick out of Florida let the team down last year with a four-game suspension, which stunted some of the momentum he had generated at the time. Upon his return, he had been passed on the depth chart by rookie free agent Justin Francis. Now with Collins and Buchanan added in the draft, and projecting to an “edge” role, Cunningham has even more competition to contend with for playing time and/or a roster spot.

30. New England Patriots
GPA: 2.04
Highest Grade: B- (Rang, Prisco, Iyer)
Lowest Grade: D (Cole, Davis)
Comments: Most thought the Patriots got a steal (and future star) in second-round pick Jamie Collins. They also seemed to agree on the pick of Josh Boyce in the fourth. Duron Harmon unanimously considered a reach, with the pick of his teammate Logan Ryan failing to impress as well. Cole’s biggest reason for the low grade was the lack of immediate-impact players drafted to help Tom Brady’s closing window.

Third-worst in the NFL! Still not as bad as our 2011 pass defense…

Jamie, with his ability to cover people — running backs and tight ends in the flat — and his ability to run with guys in the flat, I think Belichick will make him a household name.

I would say that a lot of the players who come here feel challenged at that position based on…look, we’ve had an offense that’s been in place for 13, 14 years now. It evolves a bit every year, maybe gets modified a little bit, but it’s grown. It’s certainly – it has a lot more breadth to it than it did in 2000, 2001, 2002. That means a new guy coming in has to learn – to a degree – 12, 13 years of stuff instead of a guy that’s coming in and learning the system from scratch with a new coach and that type of thing. It probably is a lot. I think that’s challenging. The move from college football to pro football is a pretty big jump in terms of protections, coverages, blitzes and all those kind of things. You watch a lot of college film, sometimes you only see one or two coverages. You don’t see that in this league.

Zolak flashback just because. I seriously want to start a petition to get a 90’s throwback game. It’s was the incubation years of a dynasty, let’s show some respect!
