WBZ-AM ad, 1993 (by Chuck D)

Classic ad from just about the time the tide started to turn for the Pats. Man, ‘90-’92 was brutal..

[I]t’s going to be interesting to compare and contrast Bills rookie receiver Robert Woods (41st overall) and Patriots rookie receiver Aaron Dobson (59th overall) in the next few years. As Bill Belichick said, the Patriots entered the draft with the intention of addressing the receiver position, and by trading down from 29 to the 50s they took themselves out of the mix for Woods, who reportedly looked sharp in Buffalo’s rookie minicamp.

Woods and Dobson were two of the most common targets by Pats pundits leading up the drafts. They’ll see eachother week 1.

The Best of PatsPropaganda This Week

May 11, 2013 by Mike Dussault

Draft analysis is still pouring in as the pundits get more looks at the new guys. Everyone will be spinning their wheels for a bit, but at least we get a short reprieve in early June with the full team mini camp.

Here’s the best of the week:

Boyce can line up anywhere along the formation and work into his route using a variety of skills. He isn’t afraid to be physical with his hands against press coverage, can catch the ball at or near the line of scrimmage and also extend the field vertically with his speed. Boyce takes time to get up to top speed, as he can be deliberate at times in his stem. He’s a reliable route runner who worked the full tree: short, underneath concepts and intermediate-to-deep routes as well. He has good hands and a sufficient catch window. As a blocker, Boyce needs to more consistently position himself to sustain contact, rather than lining players up for a single thud to knock them off their mark.

Am I the only one that doesn’t dig the whole Dobson with 17 deal? 88 would look way better and not have all the bad mojo that 17 does.

May 10, 2013 by Mike Dussault

Only one!? You’re in the majority with all of us! We all know the Pats’ struggles developing receivers, and this season their backs are against the wall. Either Dobson, Boyce or Moe have to develop into a legitimate weapon, and of course Dobson is the highest selection so all eyes are on him. And what does he go and do? Takes the number that has haunted the likes of Chad Jackson and Taylor Price, our last high-round attempts at the position. So either Dobson will beat the curse and make us forget about the 17s gone by, or 17 will yet again go down in flames.

Who’s the best running back in your opinion?

May 10, 2013 by Mike Dussault

I might be in the minority but I think Brandon Bolden gives Ridley a run for his money in camp, at least as the early down back. Regardless of how that turns out I think we’ll see a rotation there. Clearly it seems like Vereen is the passing-down back, and really, there’s no one to even compete with him. That’s a little scary given his injury history over the past two seasons. But after that Texans playoff game, he certainly deserves a chance to show what he can do.

Patriots Jersey Number Update

Patriots Jersey Number Update

There were rumblings that Amendola was going to don 80, and they appear to be true. I really like it.

And Kyle Arrington has relented, giving 24 to Adrian Wilson, and changing his number for the third time with the Patriots to 25. Hopefully the 25 version of Arrington never leaves the slot and becomes a dominant player there like he’s capable of.

Patriots Special Teams Report – Week 6 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Tom Brady’s return to Foxboro proved triumphant, as the Patriots overcame some early struggles to dominate the Bengals in the second half, leading to another solid win. With the Broncos, Raiders, and Steelers all losing, the Patriots now have sole possession of first place in the AFC, and special teams have certainly played an important […]
