Williamson: Pats’ offseason earns a C – New England Patriots Blog – ESPN Boston
Meanwhile, the Ravens earn an A-? Whatevs, I never get worked up over arbitrary grades and rankings. Here’s some good stuff on the defense:
New England also had a lot of movement on the defensive side of the ball. Collins is a favorite of mine who should improve the edge pass rush immediately, while Buchanan also is a very talented edge rusher who could surprise. Kelly should also provide a more consistent interior push, which wasn’t really Deaderick’s or Love’s specialty. Wilson should fill the Rodney Harrison enforcer role and I also can envision him playing plenty of nickel linebacker, as New England’s heavier second-level defenders outside of Jerod Mayo don’t offer a lot in coverage. In addition, the Patriots added a couple of early-to-mid-round defensive backs into the equation, a strategy that hasn’t been very fruitful in the past.
Happy 72nd Birthday to New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft.

2005 Game of the Week: Patriots/Steelers (by john129flip)
Pats won this game, but lost Rodney Harrison and Matt Light, and ultimately, the war because of it.

Troy Brown’s forced fumble in the 2006 divisional playoffs (by john129flip)
Great underrated moment in Troy Brown’s career that saved the Pats season undoubtedly. Having been at the game I’ve never felt a quicker shift in the crowd. From elation and “it’s over”, to “oh crap, the Patriots are going to do it again to us” in about eight seconds.
Not to mention all McCree had to do was hit the ball to the turf and it would’ve been Chargers ball anyways. Tough for any player on defense to do that when an interception is thrown right into their chest though.

Tom Brady’s first two drop-backs of practice yesterday resulted in a glorified throwaway and a pass that essentially sailed to no one. Credit the good coverage. Chalk it up to an overhauled group of receivers. But regardless of which side deserves more of the attention, it was a reminder that the offense is still working itself out, and the defense is capitalizing on the momentum it has sustained in retaining its core. To be more straightforward: The Patriots defense is ahead of the offense at this point in the offseason, and it’s been years since that’s been the case at Gillette Stadium.
Give early edge to Patriots defense | Boston Herald
Not all that surprising, and hopefully things get better as we get into training camp. But this is exactly why playing back-to-back divisional games in 10 days to open the season scares me a bit. Will the defense be good enough to carry the offense in those games? They might have to, especially if Gronk’s not out there…

The Patriots finished their 2021 regular-season in a slump, falling 33-24 in Miami to the Dolphins. The curse of playing in Miami continues, but it wasn’t just bad news for the Pats, Dolphins HC and former Patriots DC Brian Flores was fired this morning in a fairly shocking move. For one last time before the […]
