Tim Tebow is a commodity when it comes to messing things up for defensive coordinators, making it hard for them to game plan for him when they don’t know his involvement in the packages or the game plan. Belichick, as we all know, is a smart guy. If he could add a weapon to his offense, whether he’s going to play him or not play him, and defenses have to spend time in practices and film sessions to prepare for what they may or may not see, this takes away from the overall preparation when it comes to preparing for an offense that is already very difficult to stop.

Belichick won’t flinch. He’s going to get peppered with Tebow questions, starting on Tuesday at 10:45 a.m. ET when he holds his first news conference of mandatory minicamp, and he’ll have his answers well scripted. Expect something like this: “He’s here to play quarterback and we think he can help the team.” It would be a surprise if there is much more elaboration.

This tweet from Albert Breer sums it up for me…

Also, anyone who doubts a team can make a player, even Tebow, vanish from the media probably spent 0 days in Foxboro since 2000.

Wes Welker creates internet firestorm by tweeting college recruit – SBNation.com

Funny how this morning the story is that Welker is glad he’s to be free to be himself outside the Patriots, and then this afternoon this happens….

From an X’s and O’s standpoint, the Patriots have long sought versatility, something Tebow clearly possesses. Like every skill player they acquire, the Patriots will focus not on the limitations of his game, but the strengths that he brings to the table. Aaron Hernandez has become one of the most feared tight ends in the league, as although he is not an overpowering blocker, he has rare athleticism for the position – and the Patriots have aligned him all over the formation. In the end, this is a low-risk move for the Patriots that presents intriguing upside. Tebow will not be competing for the starting job; it’s Brady’s huddle, there’s no doubting that. But the Patriots have an offense that doesn’t need Tebow to succeed. If they don’t like what they see during this week’s mini-camp and during training camp, parting ways with the 25-year old will not be a problem.

The Pays are bringing in Tebow as a QB. Any thoughts?

June 10, 2013 by Mike Dussault

Not to be overly Belichickian, but I think he’ll just be given the chance to compete. They’ll limit the circus around him, and ask him to do a number of different things. Tebow scared me when I heard he was going to the Jets, but they never played to his strengths and just made him a part-time read option QB.

If used as a red zone fullback/H-back I think he could really cause some problems, especially because he could throw. Bottom line: Josh McDaniels drafted him for a reason, and no OC is more creative. They’ll give him every chance to carve out a role for himself, it will be up to him too do so.

The return of David Andrews

After a slew of opt-outs, and a slew of free agent departures, the Patriots are entering 2020 searching for a new identity. Losing Tom Brady was going to be a challenge in itself, but losing key contributors on defense like Dont’a Hightower and Pat Chung on such short notice really hurts this Patriots team. With […]
