After struggling in practice on Monday, his 25th birthday, rookie receiver Kenbrell Thompkins was arguably the best player on the field Tuesday, making several noteworthy grabs and showing precise route running. Thompkins both stretched the field vertically and impressed with his underneath route running. His ability to set up defenders in press coverage with nimble footwork at the line of scrimmage continues to stand out. Cornerback Aqib Talib recently lauded his ability to release off the line.

Great stuff throughout Yates’ observations, including a mention of Danny Amendola’s ability to stretch a defense, a skill that wasn’t Welker’s strong suit.

Talking about tight ends, it’s clear that Brady and Daniel Fells have a pretty good connection. The quarterback found him a couple of times in passing drills, and Fells showed a steadiness and consistency — as he has done through most of the first five practices this summer.
It’s almost as if it was expected that Amendola would come in and dominate camp after showing so well in OTAs and minicamp, but if anything, he’s surpassed his already lofty expectations. It’s not easy for a player to come in and replace Wes Welker, but Amendola has been catching everything thrown his way and made spectacular catches look easy.
Amendola is diving all over the field, showing off quick-twitch agility in his routes and even gaining separation downfield. He and Tom Brady really seem to be on the same page and he’s always a part of the first-team unit.

The practice opened with Tim Tebow running the read-option with running backs. No other quarterbacks participated in the drill. The read-option is one of the new offensive fads in the NFL, and Tebow’s running ability makes him a candidate to run it.

Not too much to really feel great about as Patriots fans, other than (hopefully) having escaped without any major injuries. It was as ugly a win as I’ve ever seen and really the Patriots didn’t deserve to win until Jerod Mayo made a big game sealing interception on the four yard line. That was a […]
