With Amendola not expected to play after being held out of practices this week, it opens the door for Edelman to step into the all-important role as the team’s slot receiver. Edelman has played just four snaps with quarterback Tom Brady this preseason but this could be his chance to make a loud statement on his value to the team as a receiver. With all the attention placed on the newcomers in the receiving corps, Edelman has been somewhat of a forgotten target. Does that change Thursday night?

Patriots, Lions 5 Things To Watch For :Pats Pub

Nice round-up from Steve Balestrieri at PatsFans. Will definitely be interested to see how the Pats o-line holds up this time around against Suh and the Lions front seven.

New England Patriots 53-man roster projection (v. 3) – ESPN Boston

New England Patriots 53-man roster projection (v. 3) – ESPN Boston

Here are Reiss’ and Yates’ dueling 53-man roster predictions and it looks like they’re struggling with the same things I struggled with in mine.

The first place is on the O-line where we all went with just seven offensive linemen. Yes, they’re all versatile, but that’s not much depth. Connolly and Cannon need to get back asap.

They cut both Hooman and Fells, but kept James Develin. That leaves Ballard and Sudfeld as the sole tight ends until Gronk gets back, and that feels light to me. Think Fells or Hooman make it.

We all agree on Ras-I sneaking on despite yet another injury. Somehow he just continues to hang on, but I’ve just about lost hope he could ever play a 16-game season. I don’t put much weight into past injuries, but with Dowling there’s no question, he’s injury-prone.

The lack of quality depth at defensive tackle continues to stick out like a sore thumb. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a move there next Saturday on cutdown day.

One of my main focuses this year was to work on my pass coverage and really nail that down,” Fletcher said. “I feel like I’ve been doing well and (there’s) always room to improve.

Jamie Collins has gotten a lot of attention as a potential solution to the pass coverage problems in the middle of the field, but Fletcher could be an even bigger piece of the puzzle early this season.

Kyle is one of our hardest-working players,” Belichick said. “He’s been a very dependable and durable player that’s been out there a lot. “He’s come a long way from the practice squad to playing corner to playing inside in the nickel position. His reads and techniques and communication and overall understanding of what we’re doing and what our opponents are doing has improved every year. “He’s a lot more valuable to us now than he was obviously when he came here. But even progressively each year he continues to expand his value to the team because of his performance, improvement, and also his versatility.

Kyle Arrington the ‘big brother’ in Patriots secondary – Sports – The Boston Globe

Good stuff on an underrated member of the secondary. I was all for re-signing Arrington this offseason, though there were plenty out there ready to dub him the “worst corner in the NFL”. There’s no question he’s best inside, and hopefully the Pats can get healthy enough to put him there full time.
