Mike Shanahan’s return to Broncos during 1989 season did not cause controversy – The Denver Post

This is all I’ll post about any controversy surrounding Josh McDaniels returning to the Patriots.

As bizarre as  Josh McDaniels​’ return to New England midplayoffs may appear to folks in Denver, there is precedent for such a move.

And that precedent was here in Denver.

 Mike Shanahan​ was fired as the head coach of the  Los Angeles Raiders​ after going 1-3 in the first four games in 1989. Less than two weeks later, on Oct. 16, 1989, Shanahan was back in Denver as the team’s quarterbacks coach.
