Patriots placing C David Andrews & LB Josh Uche on IR, promote three from practice squad

September 26, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

First reported by Field Yates, the Patriots have placed C David Andrews and LB Josh Uche on IR.

The Patriots are placing starting C David Andrews and second round LB Josh Uche on IR, per source.

James Ferentz will be promoted from the practice squad and could start on Sunday vs. the Raiders.

— Field Yates (@FieldYates) September 26, 2020

Both players were ruled out of Sunday’s game and now will miss at least three weeks. Andrews is a huge loss for the offensive front, there was some discussion that Andrews may attempt to snap using his left hand, but now he heads for a break on the sidelines.

Uche, who has been on and off injury reports since camp will now have an extended period of time to recover from a foot injury. Frustrating, but hopefully he’ll be ready to get involved when he returns.

The Patriots are elevating WR Isaiah Zuber and DT Nick Thurman from the practice squad for Sunday’s game vs. the Raiders.

As two players leave the roster, three have been promoted from the practice squad. James Ferentz joins the main roster to either cover on the line in Andrews’ absence or backup Hjalte Froholdt. Nick Thurman is called up again to add some further depth on defense and Isaiah Zuber gets the call although I can’t see him dressing come game time unless Jules or Harry are inactive.

Injuries on the offensive line are becoming a huge concern with Weems and Hix leaving. That forced guys like Marcus Cannon, Nate Solder and Donald Thomas to take double the amount of reps. That really exposes those guys to fatigue injuries. Roll call: Practice #9 – Extra Points – Boston.com
